Brass clean up ?

For Ceramic Porcelain media to work right it needs water.  The water does for the media what the water on a wet stone does when yer sharpening yer knife.  It removes the metal that plugs up the abrative surface.  The soap acts as a surfactant and helps displace residual oils and lube left over from loading and shooting.

So, the short answer is that if your tumbler/shaker will handle a wet load, yer good to go with Ceramic Porcelain.  I talked to a shooter at the long range BPCR match this weekend that uses CP media with a Lyman shaker.  He simply doesn't put enuf in to go over the top of the bowl where the center spindle comes thru.  I won't advocate it, but many pards are using shakers instead of rotary tumblers and they are not having problems.  I suspect that they are making sure the bowl center rod attachment is watertight.  One shooter even said he was using a Lyman tumbler with the media seperator and running CP media wet.  He simply sealed off the media hole.

I use a rotary tumbler for my CP wet loads and a Lyman shaker to dry the brass quick.  I put an old darkroom timer on the shaker and I set it for an hour and that seems to be enuf for the corncob media to dry out the brass.  Since it's already clean, I'm good to go for immediate loading on my progressive press.  My brass is brighter than new and it slides thru my press real easy.

I have several gunsmiths that are using the CP media to smooth up gun parts.  Use your head here.  Don't put a whole gun in cuz it will likely come out clean, but the blueing will look like heck.  But from personal experience I can tell you that it does remove tool cut burrs and smooth up internal parts real good.  A good magnet helps find the little parts in the media. . .

At yesterday's long range BPCR match I got lots of inquirys about CP media.  That fussy group of shooters wants their brass CLEAN.
