I must be getting old!!!!! I can't remember, for sure, how much 15 grains by volumn of Goex FFFg weighs in grains.  I thinks it's close to 1 for 1.  This time I'll write it down in my lil black book.

I'd appreciate any help or educated guesses.

Thx,

Olin

Here is a link to some data that should be useful to you.  http://www.curtrich.com/BPConversionSheet.htm

I'll not take credit for this as I borrowed this from Adirondack Jack who posted the link in another discussion topic just down the forum page a bit http://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php/topic,11122.0.html

That'll give ya what ya need.  You CAN weigh REAL BP, 30 grqains is 30 grains weight, etc.

But subs ya need to figure it out.  Generally the subs will weigh less, on the order of 7/10ths what the volume equivalent is.  The chart helps.

The whole idea of a volume measure is they are supposed to give ya 1:1 for BP. That said ,they vary by maker, etc. For our purposes, 1:1 is real close.

Howdy Pard!

Keep this in mind:  different lots of BP (and smokey-less, too) weigh differently for the SAME volume.  That said, as Curt's article mentioned, if you weigh BP on a scale, then 30 gr is 30 gr.  It will be a different volume,  however.  That's where it's confusing.  30 gr of 3F Goex  by WEIGHT will take up a different amount of space than, say ... Pyrodex, Swiss, Elephant or even 2F Goex.

Corn-fusing, aint it!  ;D

AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This grains/volume baloney is driving me nuts!

15 grains of FFFg Goex weighs EXACTLY 15.000000000 grains! You don't need that grains/volume baloney when you are measuring real Black Powder. Just weigh it out and pour it in.

Better yet, weigh out 15 grains and locate the Lee dipper that best corresponds to that volume of powder. I'm pretty sure the 1CC dipper is the closest. Then, you are actually working with an internationally recognized unit of volume, the Cubic Centimeter*, not an imaginary construct like grains/volume.

I'm sorry, I've taken my meds and I feel much better now.

*the Cubic Centimeter is an obsolete unit of volume, it has been replaced by the Milli Liter. But they are exactly the same. Lee is just a little bit old fashioned.
That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!
