I have only done small parts in rust/belgian blue so far with a stainless steel pot and 000 steel wool.  The results are pretty good, but now I want to work on a revolver that I will polish and finish in rust blue.  Are there any tips that more experienced rust bluers have for a newbie?

For the best quality blue finish remember 3 things: surface prep, surface prep, surface prep.   This applies no matter what kind of blue you are doing.

I am in the throws of doing that now with sanding and polishing the gun right now.  I am doing it all by hand the slow way and used the "Steel White" solution from Brownells to get off all the rust.  I am dealing with the pits right now and having to draw file them down.
