If ya shoot BP in yer rifles, but now and again like to use smokeless, ya know it can a pain to get em cleaned and lubed properly for the stuff yer gonna use next.

I've tried a lotta methods with the Marlin, but none works as well as

I like the more guns idea.  But, when I "must" shoot smokeyless fad heathen powder in any of my main match guns, I shoot the same boolits and lube that I use with BP.  It works, cleans up easy and makes the change over easy.  Seems that Big Lube™ boolits and Pearl Lube are compatable both ways.  Nice to know.

That is, for everything but my scatterguns.  For some reason, when I'm shootn' heathen loads in 'em, I really have to clean the heck out of 'em before they run my bp ammo and clean up easy.  I just think they don't much care for plastic wads. . . .

At last weekends shoot I used a rifle and double barrel that I hadn't cleaned since last months shoot (fired with real BP).  No corrosion or pitting of any kind.  Anywho, I ran out of BP shotshells before the end of the match and finished with 10 rounds of smokeless, factory Federal loads.  Well, this time I decided to clean guns, and when I looked down the barrel of the scattergun it was clean and shiney as new.  Not even any smokeless fouling.  Maybe I have gun cleaning elves.

I shoot both b.p. and smokeyless in the same guns.  After I shoot black,  more often than not,  I shoot a few rounds of smokeless to clean the b.p. fouling out, (like .44 Caliber Kid did with his shotgun).

Then,  if I am somewhat lazy and don't get around to cleaning my guns before shooting them again in a week or so (normally I do),  they're ready for the next venture wether it be black or smokeless.

Works for me.....cleaning b.p. with smokeyless ;D

Me and the wifey share the same rifle when at a match. I shoot BP and she shoots Winchester factory loads.
I get up to shoot first, followed a couple of pards later by her. It DOES seem to clean the BP fouling out, and I theorized that it was the plastic wad scraping the BP stuff out.

Went to the range yesterday with my .357 Marlin Cowboy rifle to shoot both some b.p. amd smokeless cartridges.  After I fired the b.p. cartridges (20) I switched over to smokeless.  After a few rounds to clean out the b.p. fouling, I settled down to shoot some groups.

Viola!  I managed to fire the best 5 shot group yet in this rifle with smokeless (less than 1" @ 50 yards)! Maybe the b.p. rounds seasoned the barrel for the smokeless!

Who'd a thunk it.
