Some on correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there are two Texas Ranger Museums, I think there was some talk about combining them.

  SKC,    4th street beach .

I broke out laughing when I saw this. Next we will be talking about where each of us would go plinking in the sandhills or west in the salt marsh.

Howdy SKC,

Welcome to NCOWS!  I have been re-enacting a surveyor for nearly 20 years.  I dress as a professional person would.  In the field, that would inclued a vest.  The surveyor supervised the crew, 2 chainmen, 1 or 2 men to clear the line of the survey in wood/high brush, and possible a wrangler and cook, depending on where they were.  The pictures I have seen of survey parties and exploration parties were mostly dress in that manner.

Being Dr. Bob, I use a Doctors bag to carry my ammo, ear plugs, safety glasses &c.  I don't take my medical equipment with me to shoots.  I shoot Working Cowboy [1 revover & 1 rifle] so the Dr.'s bag is sufficient.

Good or bad is up to you.  County clerk has options for any variation.  Pure as the driven snow to bribe taking crook!

I sure am willing to help in any way I can.

My cell, best to call me on, is 816-716-8866.  Call any time, Noon to Midnight.

Thank  you Doc.

I am striving for the Clerk who has a secret hobby on the side.
This may be the wrong or the right way to do it.
I have read the trilogy at NCOWS. I decided to "write" my biography using the diaries and family archive photos. Anyone who is familiar with Kansas history knows it settled down pretty quickly after 1880. There were the occasional events but it was pretty cialm after that. I plan to have my character be a veteran with the New York Calvary who migrates to Kansas, in 1867-68. settles near Peace later Sterling and build on from there. I want my character to be realistic but not too colorful. It is my hope to meld three of my ancestors into the final character. Thus my hope in the model I bring is tribute to my Gr Gr GrandDad, My Great Step-Father, and a Black sheep of a Great Uncle.

As everyone has stated, i am not limited by one persona. I chose my initial alias as I find the actual person Samuel Cody extremely fascinating. My opinion is that there was far more to Kansas History than most consider. I appreciate your offer for help.I may be calling iin and over the next few months. I won't hold it against you that I live in Kansas and you live in Missouri   ;) If I said that I was a free stater next week at Kearney, I might find tar and feathers as an welcome.

Cheers

Most places have a very interesting history if you dig a bit.  As an aside, folks in Nebraska Territory tended to send both sides back where they came from in that pre-war era and some never made it home.

Del, you might be right. The official headquarters for the Texas Ranger's is in Austin, so I wouldn't be surprised to find that there's another museum located there.

SKC,
A Clerk in a highly respectful profession, and well thought of in his community could have a very interesting persona if his secret hobby were say....a stage coach robber and you couldn't go wrong taking a couple of pages from Black Barts history as a guide line. Or anything with an unsavory past.
