Pards,

At the Wolverine Ranger's Range war last weekend Tintype Charlie performed a timing miracle with this shot of a .38 case full of the Holy Black goin' off:

Tain't no doubt in my mind.  I've seen booolets come out before.  Got a pitcher round here I need to find, my daughter took it in 1994, me, my Lab and the wad from my 28 and the shot column, the shot is going right behind the quail. ::)

Seems he had a fairly fast shutter speed, and with that, yes, he might have captured the blur of the bullet streaking away.  The slight angle below line of the bore is absolutely consistent with recoil.  Well dun (or very lucky) :)

A MUCH easier way is to shoot video and transform frames to stills.  Lacks the quality (unless ya got a real high buck digital video camera) but ya will get bullets from time to time.  I recently captured a bullet HITTING a pizza box target.  Quite by accident, but really neat.

I'm curious, just how long does the flash last?  It does show up when yer shootn' at night, but I don't know how long the fireball lasts.  I'd have to assume that it would always be of about the same duration. .  It's one thing that Heathen Smokeyless Fad shooters can't do as well. ;D ;D ;D

I have a friend that uses Pyrodex in model rocket motors, he says, "The burn rate of black powder goes up dramatically under pressure. For example, black powder burns at about 2700 inches per second under a few 100 psi of pressure". like in a shell case

now he works for NASA as a rocket scientist so we will have to bring this down to what I can understand.

We done it for Dixie,  nothing else

Shot last week at a small local shoot. At this shoot we shoot into the timber so frequently there is a dark background behind the targets. I missed a bunch of rifle targets because I was watching the flame coming out of the barrel rather than the front sight.  YeeHaww
Shot this week and the wads were sticking to the base of the rifle bullets and burning down range.  Holy Black Tracers. They said that the wads stayed with the bullets even after impact with the steel.   YEEEHAWWW
