I might have been able to squeeze one more trip into the budget but with my aunt's funeral last month that became wishful thinking.  I sure will miss meeting some of you who I only know from this forum and those of you who I have met before.  I hope you all have a great time.  Don't forget to name at least one designated drinker for me ;)

I know which target it will be. . . . .it's the one in the long nightshirt headed for the shower.

How many stages will you shoot and what is meant by "no modern gun carts"?

French Jack, I sent you a E-mail, I think!

Camille, when I shot the "Eastern Regional" last year, I carried Saddlebags and left me gun-cart home. But, I have seen Gun-carts off in the distance.....at a few NCOWS shoots. But I've been gone so long that I may have forgot what I thought I remembered ;)

Camille,
The Main Match will be 8 stages, and require roughly 50 pistol rounds, 75 rifle rounds, and 20 shotgun rounds. Pictured below is what would be considered "modern gun carts"

"Historically appropriate small conveyances for competitors' firearms and shooting supplies will be allowed". But they really aren't necessary at our range the way it is laid out.

Camille,
No need to worry about gun carts at the Eastern regional. You won't need one, they have plenty of tables and gun racks and these guys put on one of the most fun shoots around. Make sure you have breakfast at the Blue Moon, if it's still open.

Howdy! Last I remember guncarts were legal, this subject had been discussed before on this forum and in a PM from the NCOWS deputy marshal Joss House to me stated:" You brought up another sore subject that I'm hoping nobody tunes in on and that is the gun cart. It is permitted by virtue of a small acceptance and it's use is so stated in the by-laws. However, you know as well as I that by-laws are subject to review and change if challenged. I wouldn't want to see the gun cart issue come before congress for a majority vote. There would be a LOT of upset people."
So I ask Joss, has the congress voted to do away with the use of guncarts? Or not? ??? If not then this person or anybody for that matter that wants to use a guncart should be allowed to use one. Wild Ben Raymond
P.S. This quote is not the entire PM sent to me as I did not want to bring up anymore sore subjects involved than necessary.

Quick Fire

Guncarts are still legal Steve and anyone else that wants to know.

Friends,

Before this thread gets hijacked off to the topic of guncarts, please let me stress that the types of guncarts pictured above are what we at GLFMC consider to be "modern guncarts". Since there is no documentation that the guncarts pictured above were in use prior to 1900 we DO consider them to be "modern". Therefore we DO NOT allow them as per NCOWS By-Law 7-4:

7-4.  Only historically appropriate small conveyances for competitors' firearms and shooting supplies will be allowed (e.g., no converted golf carts, modern shooting carts, etc.). Visible ammunition containers and shooting supplies and equipment shall be consistent with historical authenticity. No plastic ammo boxes shall be visible at any time.

Also, let me again point out that the way the range is laid out there is really no need for gun carts modern or otherwise.

Obviously Joss has answered for himself, but let me assure that the Congress has not voted to prohibit guncarts. However, the bylaw that Dutch has cited above, is still in effect as far as I know. I am aware of no modifications, changes or repeal of this item.

As he also stated, the GLFMC range is constructed in such a way that guncarts are not necessary. (Distance from parking area, gun racks and facilities for staging long guns, loading areas for BP etc.) Carts are not allowed near the firing line in any case (largely due to traffic limitations) and must be kept at a distance from the line.

The gun cart issue is another one that is somewhat difficult as well, because some posses have simply "looked the other way" and allowed items that were not in compliance with the bylaws to be used anyway. As a result, there is a mistaken belief that we are "entitled" to use any style cart we desire regardless of the guidelines. If the majority of the Congress wishes to modify, relax, strengthen or eliminate that bylaw, that would be their perogative to do so. But so far, it hasn't happened. Until that time, the Bylaw should stand as written.

As it pertains to the Eastern Regional, as a regional event, all NCOWS rules, classes, and guidelines will be observed. Guncarts will be permitted as long as they meet the standard described in the bylaws.

I wish I could go, but that is the same weekend as Mississippi Fandango, which is a tradition.
