Two Flints

Hello SSS,

I was wondering and hoping if I could get some of you to post a photo or drawing of a Spencer that was part of American history in some way.  If you could scan a photo and post it along with a brief description that would be great.  I took the picture of the Spencer, once owned by Kit Carson, and appearing below from the Time-Life Series, Scouts, which appears on page 33.  If you have other photos or drawings of Spencers used in American History PLEASE post them, but give proper credit to the original source, book title and/or author.

Thanks,

Two Flints

Hi,

My second offering about Spencers in American history.

This Spencer carbine is the one found with John Wilkes Booth when he was killed in Garrett's barn, after having assassinated President Lincoln

The capture of President Jefferson Davis (While wearing a lady's shawl).

In a notarized letter dating from September 6th, 1910 Caspar Knobel states that: "THIS (Spencer) CARBINE WAS CARRIED BY ME WHEN I CAPTURED JEFFERSON DAVIS, PRESIDENT OF THE SOUTHERN  CONFEDERACY, ON THE MORNING OF MAY 10TH 1865 AT ABBYVILLE, GEORGIA. SWORN TO BY ME

Caspar Knobel of, Late A Company, 4th Michigan Cavalry."

Major 2

here is my offering....although not as famous as Carson's , Booth's or Knobel's, it falls into the range of Carbine's purchased for CO. D 5TH NY VOL CAV.

As to it's Americana .... It is a movie star of sorts, handled and fired by Gregory Peck as Abraham Lincoln in "The Blue & the Grey"
mini series 1982.

I've owned it almost 30 years, S&S centerfire upper block and a mint bore....

when planets align...do the deal !
