Sooo I have stainless Taurus Gaucho in .45 Colt and I'm itchin' to try some black powder loads.  ;D
I have 250 grain SWC bullets.  Someone said try 40 grains of ffg with Magnum primers?

Howdy EL GUAPO,

Ya mite, or mite not get that much BP under 'em boolits.  I'd start with about 1/8" of compression, whatever that is in grains, and go from there.  Simply measure where you will crimp the boolit down to the base and mark that on a case.  Then put in 1/8" more powder than that and compress it with the boolit as you seat and crimp.

If and when you want a bullet designed especially for 45 Colt with Genuine Powder, I have the molds.  Mason Stillwell and Springfield Slim sell the cast bullets.  The genuine bp design for your gun that drops at 250 grains is called the PRS.

Good luck and enjoy the smoke!!

DD has given you the straight stuff. A lightly compressed load will work fine. That may or may not end up being somewhere close to 40grains of powder. (most likely not considering the capacity of todays cases and depending on what bullet weight you use)
