My favorite lines from the movie:

[Calvera has just captured the Seven]

Calvera: What I don't understand is why a man like you took the job in the first place, hum? Why, eh?

Chris: I wonder myself.

Calvera: No, come on, tell me why.

Vin: It's like this fellow I knew in El Paso. One day, he just took all his clothes off and jumped in a mess of cactus. I asked him that same question, "Why?"

Calvera: And?

Vin: He said, "It seemed to be a good idea at the time."

I decided years ago to have that inscribed on my tombstone....

...it sounds so much classier than "Hey...watch this!'    ;D
George "Lone Gunman" Warnick

I believe that the Magnificent Seven is one of the best Westerns ever made!  It's right up there with J.W.'s "Cowboys" which is also, if I may venture an opinion, an ensemble piece.

Capt. Nathan Brittles {John Wayne} in "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon."

"A gun is  just a tool. No better and no worse than any other tool----- Think of it always in that way. A gun is as good--- and as bad--- as the man who carries it. Remember that."

Watched it again last night, really love the music.  I think the best speech in the film is Charles Bronson telling the boys that a man with a gun isn't as courageous as being a father and taking on the responsibility of supporting a wife and children, scratching a living out of the ground day after day, and that he (Bronson) never had that kind of courage.
Only thing I don't love about the movie is all those low slung, tied down rigs.

Another favorite quote, James Coburn, "Nobody throws me my own gun and tells me to run."
