Does anyone use BP or subs in a progressive press, using a volumetric powder measure?

I have a Lee 1000 and a Lee Load All, and am wondering if its safe to use BP/Sub powder in their hoppers?

I have been to the Hogdon site and read their comments (below), and so feel that its OK with Pyrodex or 777.
I am not looking at using pure Goex, etc in them at the moment though.

QuoteEvaluation of the test results reveals that there is no increase in risk of ignition from the use of Pyrodex and Triple Seven when compared to smokeless powders. Further, burn tests indicate that there is no issue with critical column height in the factory supplied powder hoppers with Pyrodex, Triple Seven or our smokeless products. These findings would be consistent with the United States Department of Transportation classification of Pyrodex and Triple Seven as flammable solids rather than as explosives, allowing them to be transported in the same manner as smokeless powder.

Hodgdon Powder Company will begin changing our warnings as soon as possible to reflect the results of our testing. We will now state that Pyrodex and Triple Seven may be used in any volumetric powder measure approved by the manufacturer for this purpose.

777 works real goods in a LEE measure, but ya might need a disk stacker to get it to toss enough for .45 Colt.

In "The DarkArts" Child Board at the top of this forum the subject "Static & BP" covers about every aspect of this topic.  After reading and digesting it all, what it really boils down to is that it is up to each individual to make up his or her own mind as to what they feel is safe for them.

For me, I made and installed an aluminum powder hopper on my Dillon 550B press and load real BP on a regular basis with no problems.

Again, it's an individual choice as to what you feel you feel safe with.

I load all my main match ammo on a LEE Pro 1000 progressive with no modification.  Simple, quick and easy.  I shoot only Holy Black.  But, what you do is up to you.  Life is like that anyway.  All my shotgun main match ammo is loaded on a MEC 600 Jr Mk V.  That's all bp too.

One train of thought goes like this.

Graphite IS conductive (brushes in motors, etc), soooooo, if ya have a smokeless measure that has been used a bunch for smokeless and it gets a slime of graphite on the inside after a time, ya notice how the grains of powder no longer stick to the measure, etc AND that slime is conductive.

Sooooo, ya might could think of that slime as "bonding" the various parts electrically and reducing the static protential a bunch.

Now, making any further deductions is, as they say, a personal decision, as the one time the exception proves the rules is all it takes to mess up yer whole day or worse.  Make any decisions ya like, BUT, ya might could think on this a bit.

I use real black powder in both my Dillon 650 measure, and have also used the Lee Auto-Disk with black Powder.  Never a hint of a problem.

Your mileage may vary......

CYA.

That's the motto of many manufacturers.  I changed the hopper on one of my measures to a copper tube and it works fine.  By the way, Pyrodex IS a type of Black Powder, not a sub, so there's part of your answer.

FWIW I use ONLY Goex.
