Howdy folks,

I considering subscribing to some Cowboy Action Shooting related magazines.

What CAS related magazines or periodicals to you regularly read?

Which one do you like the best?

I like Shoot Magazine and the NCOWS magazine the Shootist.  The biggest difference between Shoot and Guns of the Old West is that Shoot publishes pictures of the average shooters at the match they attend, and it's fun to see your picture or that of a friend in the magazine...   Plus the staff are more than willing to answer your questions.... ;D

Yep, ;) SHOOT Magazine, cover to cover!  I like the pictures and the reviews of guns in GUNS OF THE OLD WEST. ('Secially the pictures)  and I've heard great things about the SHOOTIST Magazine, but I have to wait until some of my subscriptions to my other love magzines (cars) run out.  If'n I don't my wiffy will hit me on the big, tender bump on my head she has been workin on to perfect these last 23 years. ::) :o

The Shootist (NCOWS)
Cowboy Chronicle (SASS)
Not exactly CAS, but read True West without fail. Lots of Old West history and etc.

* Used to subscribe to Trail's End and liked it very much, but it basically went belly up.
* Used to subscribe to Guns of the Old West, but let it expire. It was OK, but too much rehash (same folks, same kinds of matches, same concepts) and the reviews always seemed positive, no matter how good/bad the item was. Too much emphasis on high-dollar custom this and that.
* SHOOT is probably interesting, but I have not subscribed as I think it's overpriced -- even (per copy) by subscription.

SHOOT magazine.  What I like most about it is it come only every other month.  By that time I'm ready to read another CAS article.

At one time I was getting Guns of the Old West, Shooting Times and American Rifleman.  There was so much over lap I was actually sick of reading CAS type articles. :o

Now I just get SHOOT and my American Rifleman.  It give me just enough CAS to be happy buy not overwhelmed.  You miliage may vary.

If it can't be nice, eaten, make money, create comfort or provide real pleasure.........kill it or trade it in on new one!

Thanks y'all.

I have bought the last three issues of Guns of the Old West off the rack.  I haven't seen SHOOT yet but from the replies it seems like one I might want to subscribe to.  I'll be getting the Cowboy Chronicle once I join SASS.  I have the August issue of Cowboy Chronicle and found it interesting.  I'll also check out some of the western history magazine.

Again, thanks for answering my newbie questions.  Y'all are a great bunch!
God bless,

SIR WILLIAM

The smart move is to NOT buy the gunrags.  I quit.  I had more money to buy the great books and how-to videos from the experts.  That is the best way to spend your money.  Your money.
