Stopped by my FFl on the way home tonight. Sat and chatted with him for awhile and happened to glance over at his display case. Looked like an 1858 sittin there waitin for me ta give it some attenton. It's a Euroams 1858,a bit rusted but in good mechanical shape. Locks up well, needs some nipples but otherwise than that it said "Adopt Me!"

Looks like it's mine now but there's a 9 day waiting period for my paycheck ::) to come!

It ain't real pretty but I intend to refinish it, either in the white or maybe plum brown. It looks like it sat on a basement shelf for awhile but the rust hasn't pitted it to much.

What the heck for $40.00 ;D I can't go wrong!

I tried a search to find date of manufacture but couldn't find anything. The serial number is 0181XX. It does say Euroams on the barrel.

It's smaller than my Pietas which will be a problem for my big hands, but I'm a sucker and couldn't pass it up!

Marshall,
I'da done the same thing & snapped it up. To find the date of manufacture, look near the proof marks on the frame. Nearby you will see a square with either Roman numerals or capital letters inside the square. Let me know what letters/numerals are in the square and I can tell you when your new baby was born.

Since I have 14+ guns, I've been called the Imelda Marcos of Cap&Ball. Now, that's a COMPLIMENT!

You have to wait 9 days for a C&B pistol?  Brother, you need to find a new place to live.  I can order them through the mail and they are sittin' on the doorstep when I get home from work.

The 9 day waiting was for the paycheck not the legalities,

That was mean of me, i shouldn't joke around people with guns ;D!

Of course it's only a 9 day waiting period if I get to the mail box first. If she does it pushes it back another 2 weeks!

$40.00???
Sheech! I'd almost double that for it the way it is without seeing it.
I have 4 and they are great, but they will give big hands a fit. They are an almost exact copy of a Remington Old Model Army that used the Remington-Beals Frame. (First 1600 or so made.)
I bet it'll shoot great as the cylinders are larger than the bore.

Use .454 Dia Balls as the .451's will be a bit loose in the chambers when rammed home.

You can take the blue off with Birchwood-Casey blue and rust remover then I use Birchwood-Casey Super Blue, and being a cold blue it'll give a somewhat mottled appearance due to the difference in the metals used in the frame and the BBL, but it'll look like it is well worn.

I just received a pair of Aged Ivory-Like Grips from Tombstone Grips (see them on Ebay) and they are great looking and I can't wait to get them on one of my Euroarms/Armi San Paolo pistols.

Yep if you decide you can't shoot that little Euroarms send it my way LOL

I think the plum-brown finish would really look good and set it apart from the rest.  Keep us informed and post some pics if you can. 8)

Don't have it yet but I found out it was made in 1973! I'll get it Friday and will try to get some pics of it!

To Halfway Creek Charlie, thanks for the tip about the ivory stocks available on eBay.  I was just about to get a set in the $40 range, but I checked these out and they are less than half the price, $18.   For the rest of you, do a search on eBay for "ivory grips" and the list will come up.  He specifys sets for the EuroArms and other models, so read 'em all to make sure you get the right ones.  He also makes them in "new white" as well as antiqued.

That OK 44 Cal Kid,
He made the mould off a pair of original Euroarms Grips I sent him and he gave me a pair of aged grips for the use of mine.  I have them on one of my 4 3/4" bbl Gunslingers I make

I too would like to see pictures of a browned Remington. I browned a rifle a few years back and really liked it.
Wouldn't a deep plum brown with stag grips be nice?

From the SCORRS website, browning a 58:
goal was to make the gun appear as if it might be an original cartridge conversion from the Civil War era.  In order to do this, I chose to use a rust brown finish that is similar to what the original finish might deteriorate to over the years.  I decided to try Barrel Brown and Degreaser, by Laurel Mountain Forge.  It can be obtained from Brownells.    I selected the Laurel Mountain browning solution, because it would not be necessary to be as careful about oil contamination on the metal parts.

I began by removing the bluing from the Kirst Konverter.  I did this by using a product called Navel Jelly.  Navel Jelly is normally used to remove rust from tools and parts.  The bluing on a gun is essentially a form of controlled rust so the Navel Jelly does an excellent job of removing the finish.

Figure 7. The Remington is nearly finished.  Unfortunately, this photo does not illustrate the deep red of the new finish, but it does show the loading port, the extractor housing, and the unique ammunition..
I started the rust browning process by sanding the metal with sandpaper.
