I have a new 1906 97 barrel has been cut to 22 in. with a brass bead enstalled ,Why the 22 instead of 20 or 18 . I am sure it has someting to do with chokes but ? Do shooters get rid of the button release in the side of reciever.?
length of pull ? I am 5'10" so i12.5 best.
Finally changegin the rear stock ,it has some major cracks near the reciever would it be best to change the stocks ?
I am not the least biy happy with this gun just wanted to give it some extra perks.

As far as the length of the barrel, that falls to personal preference. I like a 21 to 22 inch barrel. Once you cut the first 3 inches of the barrel off then your choke is gone anyways.

I would not get rid of the release button on the side.

As far as the stock goes, lots of them have small cracks near the receiver. They will last a long time like that. As far as length of pull, again that goes to personal preference. I am 5'7" and I like a 12 3/4 lop. If you think you would like a longer lop then you can put a recoil pad on the gun, and change the lop that way.

Hope this helps

Yup, several places sell replacement stocks.  Cracking in the grip areas is pretty common.  You need to keep the stock fitting tightly to the frame of it leads to cracking.  Sometimes oild getting into the stock does as well.

Folks cut the barrels as they like.  Sometimes they even cut a barrell because of damage and just cut off the bad area.

As Digem says, length of pull depends on the person.  But with the way we load the guns, many of us like a slightly shorter length than we would normally use.

The side button doesn't hurt anything and can be useful sometimes, so no need to remove it.
