I do hear so many stupid reasons for not shooting Genuine Powder.

1.  I kin buy cheep factory loads for my shotgun so cheep I can't load 'em and compete. . . . . .
Let's face it, the competition ain't between me and Wal Mart.  Wal Mart ain't pullin' the trigger or wearin' a hat or tall boots.  Nope, my competition is the dude shootn' Holy Black.  He can't buy ammo from no discount store cuz it won't flame and smoke or smell rite.

2.  It's too much work to load real BP.
Hoowie and balderdash!!  Loadin' Real Powder shells ain't no more work than loadin' Heathen Fad Smokeyless ammo.  So naaaaah! :P

3.  It's too hard to clean up my guns after shootn' bp.
Nuts!!  I kin clean up my guns cleaner and faster than they can.  My guns start out the match cleaner and hit my safe cleaner and I don't spend no more work gettin' 'em that way.  It's a lot of hoowie and ca-ca.  Shootn' bp don't make one bit more work of cleanin'.  We just keep our guns cleaner.

4.  Loadin' real bp is way more dangerous.
Bunk!  Don't smoke and reload.  Ya shouldn't anyway, no matter whut powder yer usin'.  Static electricity ain't the culprit.  Heat is and most heat sources can be traced back to the cig hangin' out of yer mouth.  Try chewin'!!

5.  I reload Holy Black, especiall shot shells, cuz it costs less.
Yup, I do and I can give you the numbers.  Also, with all 'em shooters of heathen fodder throwin' away their reloadable hulls, I kin reload for way less.  Now, I just wish I cud follow a shooter disposin' of 16ga hulls. . .

6.  Cast boolits cost more for bp than they do for heathen fad smokeyless powder.
Bunk.  I sell the molds for fine bp boolits.  They don't take no more, or less, lead then cheep heathen fad projectiles.  They do carry a bit more lube, but that's their charm.  Let's face it, a 200 grain boolit takes 200 grains of metal regardless of the final shape.

OK, so their powder may cost a bit less per boom.  OK, who gets the most fun per BOOM?

FWIW, I've never seen another shooter of the Holy Black slinkin' home after winnin' a match with gamer loads.  Cud be cuz I keep company with a lot of great pards. . . :) :)

QuoteOK, so their powder may cost a bit less per boom.  OK, who gets the most fun per BOOM?
Well... thats coz they (the heathens) don't actually BOOM!

QuoteFWIW, I've never seen another shooter of the Holy Black slinkin' home after winnin' a match with gamer loads.  Cud be cuz I keep company with a lot of great pards. . .
Is there such a thing as a 'gamer load' with BP? Iffn I go under 20gr in my .44's it doesnt feel right! Under 25gr in my .45 LC's, and it dont group for sheet! 15gr in my .36's is just about nice thanks....
PLUS any of those 'minimum' loads will get people jumpin back when I step up and squeeeze dat trigger thing.

Quote3.  It's too hard to clean up my guns after shootn' bp.

I know far far too many people using factory smokeless loads who just put their guns in a sock, case, whatever and thats where they will stay until the next match.
Then they get a little miffed at the match when they pull out their guns and see rust!!!!

Quote4.
No offense to anyone... but thats Darwinism in action. To me it equates to someone sticking a wet finger in a distribution box to see if the electricity is live or not.

There is also.

-- I dont use BP coz its messy.
Well... duh... yeah... and smelly... but, thats what we like about it. If you carry a rag around and dampen it with water every stage, you can give yourself a little wash, and its not as messy is it?

-- I dont like shooting BP percussion revolvers coz they arent as reliable.
Then MAKE them reliable. I found that the fastest way to get aquainted with your weapons is to shoot Black Powder! Before you know it, you will be competent at stripping that revolver down, replacing nipples, using 'Kentucky windage', etc. etc.

One of the things I like best about BP is my reloading scale has been gathering dust on a basement shelf for years.  I can pick up any caliber and don't need "a load" for it or reloading data.   Just put enough powder in the case so the bullet touches down on it, 3F for 38 and under, 2F or 3F for anything larger.  Plus, you can't overcharge a cartridge.   Easier reloading than smokeless.

I'll be boomin' and smokin' away this weekend.  My home club, Rock River Regulators, has come to know me as the sooty one.  Lately, I see more and more smoke rollin' up in the stage bays.  I  hear more and more bp hoots and hollars.  I also hear more and more coughin' and gagin' on the part of the piff ting bunch.

They can easy enuf out speed me.  None of 'em kin out grin me.

Grapeshot

There is nothing like the roar of a .44 with a full charge of BP except a .45 going whole hog with a full charge of BP and a 250 grain bullet.

Bagged me an airborne target with my shotgun last match and even I couldn't see it because of the smoke of the last round.  The force is with me, guiding my muzzles toward their target like a radar guided Vulcan ADA gun.
Listen!  Do you hear that?  The roar of Cannons and the screams of the dying.  Ahh!  Music to my ears.

Dick I agree with ya Pard.

There used to be a wild hog BBQ place just out the gates of the old range in Miami I shot al..
Trail Glades Range...
The smell of holy black at the range while shooting, made me crave the wild hog BBQ sandwich with cole slaw he served there.

it's the only thing I miss about Miami.... to me food just taste better after a day with holy black ..

Thanks Pards,

I just had to start this thread.  I get tired of explainin' why I enjoy shooting Genuine Powder.  I take nothing from anybody elses enjoyment of their chosen way of shooting our sport.  I only wanted to rant some and say "CUZ I KIN".

Loved the expression on the RO's (pftinger) face when my Mrs. had a 3f load in her 20g. along with her somokeyless loads ;D.  It was the lone shell ratteling around in the bottom of the range bag ::).

Still love to smoke things up.

Now see, I been using that 777 stuff, and I got a few pounds left, but I do like the SOUND and the SMELL of the real powder when I touch off the FFG in the .50-70.  Even with ear plugs in, there's no doubt ya touched off some of the black stuff when it goes BOOM!!!

Might be I need to invest in a case of that FFG for the .45s as well.  That way even my "mini hog" loads will SOUND bigger, so's I don't git accused of being the world's slowest gamer  ::)

Ho Pards,

Zoom out.  We are in a fantasy sport.  We strap on irons and make believe we are who we want to be.  Walter Mitty (sp) held no advantage over us.

Ok, for myself, the old west meant roarin', flamin' and smokin warthog 4X plus guns with a full load of holy black.  That was just to settle where to park my horse.  If it got more intense, I called in some gamblin' pards.  The bottom dealin union, of which I'm a flounderin father, comes to the aid of any fellow cheatin' low livin' pard whut is in mortal trouble.  We may back shoot or parlay an arguement into a belly gun slaying, but never would we dishoner a fellow gambler. . .

Such is the way the old west should have been. .
