Two Flints

Hi SSS,

I just received permission from the seller of this Goodell-Spencer to post his description and photos as they currently appear on one of the on-line auction sites.  Thought you'd be interested in seeing them.

Two Flints

THIS WEAPON IS A SPENCER RIFLE THAT WAS REDONE BY MR. GOODELL IN 1880. MR. J. GOODELL CAME FROM OLEAN, NY. MR. GOODELL PUT ON A HEAVY BARREL. THIS GUN WEIGHTS APPROX. 13 LBS. HE ALSO TOOK THE BORE DOWN TO A 40 CAL. SERIAL NUMBER WAS ORIGINALLY 11445. THE ENGRAVING DUE TO THE SPENCER IS ON TOP OF THE RECIEVER. THE GENTLEMAN WHO HAD THIS GUN PUT HIS INITALS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE STOCK CBM. THE LEFT SIDE OF THE STOCK THERE IS AN ELK. THE WOOD IS VERY GOOD WITH 2 MINER CRACKS IN THE LEFT SIDE OF STOCK AND RIGHT SIDE IS GOOD. THE FOREPIECE IS EXCELLENT. THE RAMROD HAS BEEN REDONE BUT IT HAS BEEN WITH THIS GUN A LONG, LONG TIME. THE BORE IS EXCELLENT. THESE RIFLES WERE MADE BY GOODELL BASICALLY FOR HUNTING BIG GAME (BUFFLO AND ELK ETC). HE ONLY MADE 12 OF THESE RIFLES OUT OF THE SPENCERS. THE BARREL ITSELF IS 1/4 OCTIGON 3/4 ROUND. THE LOADING TUBE IS IN THE BACK THROUGH THE BUTT. THIS GUN IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. THERE IS PATINA ON THE BARREL AND ON THE SPENCER ITSELF.
