(or Lire', in this case)  Euro, actually  ;)

Don''t forget, in Europe the rifle probably isn't as pricey as here -

Current UK prices   Carbine - £600.00  =  c. $1140.00
                            Rifle - £630.00  =  c. $1195.00

New member and first post.

I purchased an Uberti 1866 24" .38 special as the first gun I ever purchased a month ago. I was raised shooting by my grandfather, and inherited all of his shotguns, and 1 rifle (.22).

So needless to say I was totally discouraged when out on the range for the first time with the gun it jams on the 4th cartridge through the gun. Brand spankin new. It sure looks good while NOT shooting though!

Heard from the gunshop that it had to go back to Uberti today, so maybe more than just the loading gate?

Trinity

I bought my '66 (Navy Arms version: 19" with saddle ring, .38sp) back in February and like Lead Slinging Lucy, broke the tab on dummies before ever actually firing it.  I got a replacement gate from VTI and had a hoot shooting the gun.  I love the gun and I got it at the darned reasonable price of $699 from Ultona on Gunbroker.

It seems that I bought it at the right time because he's now selling them for $715.

I paid $699 for one of these today, actually; from Bass Pro Shop in San Antonio, TX
And now I see that I may need a replacement part :(
and the basepin screw is missing off of the Birdshead .45LC I purchased with it... *sigh*

Why, yes, I dress like this all the time. I feel very unencumbered like this, and it helps to conceal my pistols...

The Avocado Kid

I picked up a "66" about three years ago and it works good but the only letters I can find on the gun is an R behind the lever, anybody know the year made?My date codes end with 2003 and all these date codes have two letters, did they change after 2003?,I guess I will shoot it until the gate breaks, maybe it won't. It's probably been already mentioned, but MOST of the failures I've heard about were the 66s chambered in .357, not the 45 Colt and other calibers.  Why?  ?   ?   ?   ?

Beats me.

Quick Fire

I had one break on my 44-40 several years back after shooting it for 2 years. Put the replacement gate from Ed on it and haven't had a problem with it yet.

My 44-40 has been working flawlessly since I got it last November..... 'Course it only gets occasional use since I prefer the Henry.

I talked to Mike Harvey at Cimarron recently about the '66 ladles.  He told me that Uberti has beefed up the loading gate somewhat and has been making them that way for a while now.  The design is the same and it is hard to tell the difference by looking (I think the metal is slightly thicker).  But there are a lot of rifles at various distributors that have been on the shelf for a while and still have the old gates, so I'm sure we will continue to hear about them breaking for some time.
