Finally got to shoot an 1875 thanks to a great pard at my local club. I had planned on getting a pair to shoot classic cowboy. Unfortunately, my hands are not real big, and getting the hammer back while shooting one-handed was pretty tough. Is there any mods available for a longer hammer, and if so, is it legal?
If not, is the 1858 any easier in this regard?
Thanks for the help.

I can't tell you on the longer hammer. But the 58s are better for smaller hands and easier..I've got Ubertis and they are fine I've heard that the euros are a little smaller and easier of the 58s for even smaller hands. I have 75s and it takes more practice and lightening the hammers to make it easier, them you need federal primers too. Its a long process to get it all right.. Try a few first, I have 4 sets of pistols now and like the 75s and 58s best..Loco

Just bought an 1858 remmie made by Euro arms it`s got to be the smallest grip model made .. i`ve got same gun made by Pietta , Uberti and ASM .. the ASM is smaller than the Pietta and the Uberti but the EURO has them all beat on small grip frame size . so if your hands are small try a Euro remmie think you`d like the feel.

Euroarms/Armi San Paolo(same company) have the smallest grips and frames, closer to the original 1861 Old Army they were designed off of. 1861 Old Armys were Remington_Beals patent frames and do not have the threads showing at the breech.

I have a pair of 1977 Euroarms '58 Rem.s and two newer ones. The newer ones are a 1994 and a 2004 (I think) and these two are the ones I made into 4 3/4" bbl'd Gunslingers. They have excellentheft and balance. The 1977's were left alone and are 8" bbl's they equally feel as good as the Gunslingers, the balance being good but different due to the 3" longer bbls. All need some hammer spring work to easily cock one handed. I polish the innards on them all anyway so do the hammer spring right along with the stoning process.
