Before you go stuffing loaded cylinders into pouches, you should understand is not allowed either in SASS nor NCOWS to carry loaded cylinders around.  Cylinders can ONLY be loaded at the loading table.

Quote from: 1961MJS on November 06, 2024, 01:53:14 PMHi, Responding to parts of this.  Responses in all CAPS so you can tell the difference.

I'm looking for a leather ranger style belt with FULL LOOPS for .45 Colt (as an aside why do almost no reproduction belts actually have full loops like most of the originals did?  Instead they just have a dozen or so on the back, it's driving me nuts!)

FULL LOOPS MAKE IT HARD TO PUSH THE ROUNDS OUT THE TOP FROM THE BOTTOM.  COVERING LESS THAN ¾ OF THE ROUND MAKES ACTUALLY LOADING FROM THE BELT EASIER.

WRT HOW MANY CARTRIDGES WERE CARRIED, LOOKING AT PACKING IRON, IT APPEARS THAT MOST BELTS HAD A LOT OF LOOPS MAKING THE BELT HEAVY.  THAT DIDN'T MATTER IF AS MUCH IF YOU WERE ON A HORSE THOUGH.

I need two holsters, both made to fit OVER the loaded cartridge loops, one strong side and the other a canted cross draw made to go just to the left of the belt buckle.  Both should be either double Mexican loop or preferably Cheyenne style.  I would prefer they be leather lined but I am open to unlined.  But both need to hold 8 inch Remington 1858s.

EVEN A HOLSTER FOR A BELT HOLDING A WHOPPING 5 CARTRIDGE LOOPS WILL BE MADE TO FIT OVER THE LOOPS.

I also need two spare cylinder pouches, which likewise will slide over the loaded cartridge loops.

IF YOU'RE CARRYING CARTRIDGES, WHY BOTHER WITH AN UNREALISTIC SPARE CYLINDER.  I DON'T RECALL SEEING A SINGLE SPACE CYLINDER POUCH IN PACKING IRON.

The idea for the rig is that it is scaleable, I could either carry it with both holsters and one spare cylinder pouch, or one holster and both spare cylinder pouches.  Also, it is meant to either carry the revolvers as cap and ball, or with cartridge conversion cylinders.

I hope this helps in your decision making.  Later

When I say full loop I mean the entire length of the belt covered in cartridge loops, as they would have been in period, not those silly 15 loops on the ass style belts that I mostly see advertised.  I'm looking for about 40+ loops.

It isn't JUST for competitions, but actual carry as well.  Two scenarios, one, black powder hunting season, two apocalyptic post ammo carry, basically what if things get ugly (been watching the news lately?) and I run out of centerfire ammo, or just can't spare any, and new ammunition and reloading components are unobtainium (remember about 4 years ago?  And that was just a panic, not an a war).  In a pinch I can make my own black powder from stump remover, fertalizer, and instant cold packs (potassium nitrate) and charcoal (sulfur can be ordered or obtained from some pharmacies or health food stores, and it is also possible to make powder without it, but it won't work as well) and I can cast my own bullets from scrap lead, and I have a punch to form new percussion caps from salvaged aluminum beverage cans, and the recipe for priming compound.  So while everyone else is fighting over the last couple of rounds of wolf 9mm fmj I will just be rolling my own .44 cap and ball and carrying cylinders as magazines.  Not the most likely scenario to be sure, but think how bad the last ammo panic was and consider that we may be in the brink of World War 3 (not as likely now given the election results, but still possible), and likely staring down civil war 2.0, ironically enough, when the democrats throw another temper tantrum over election results, again, so some insurance is nice.

And the third reason, I just think it's cool and want it that way. :-\

This actor "9245" is a TROLL.  Do not feed the TROLL any further.  It had the same MO over on the other forum, never satisfied with any answer or suggestion and continuously begging for others to do its thinking and research. There will never be satisfactory answers for this CLOWN!!

STOP FEEDING THIS TROLL.  Send it back UNDER THE BRIDGE

Oh Lucky and Coffin stop it.

The feller is totally new to the games and asking the same questions we all did.

Further, his discussion of cylinder switching and possible various "less harmonious future outcomes"
is something we all discussed here and on other pages in the last lustrum or decade.....

He actually has valid questions and some interesting chat.

So if you guys don't want this forum to die off completely, cut the new guys a little slack.

:) Hey My Good Perfesser :(

Twould also appear 9245 isn't really interested as much in SASS or CAS or NCOWS as being some sort of right wing pepper who is looking more toward conspiracy than playing in our playground.

FOR EVERYBODY:

DO NOT FEED THE TROLL

Thankyou.  I really don't know some people's issues with questions.

I also wonder just what in this thread they think I have rejected.  Quite the opposite, I'm getting good information.  It seems my comment about other possible uses for this stuff beyond gaming has struck a nerve with those two.  Is it wrong to want something historically accurate AND also something to use during ammo scarcity?  How little they seem to remember 4 years ago.  I do, I had to buy an entire hand loading setup just to get a few boxes of ammo, and even that didn't last long because primers dried up about a week later.  Is it so hard to imagine cap and balls getting a new practical lease on life at some point in the future?

I will restate my opinion; "It is not entertaining or enlightening." I will waste no more time on this thread. INMO there is nothing to be learned here.

Coffin I can see your point, but the felow has expressed interest in NCOWS in particular and Cowboy stuff in general.

The concept (which has been expressed in the past) of "look it up yourself" is neither helpful nor conducive to keeping discussions on this forum going.

I find that Posting links to prior threads with the answers is oarticularly helpful since the search engine on this forum sucks .

If you guys want this forum to die, keep it up.

If the fellow turns out to be a turnip in disguise then I will happily stomp his ass into the netherworld and appologise to the forum.

I have been an active member since 2010 (I think). I have tried to take an active part in discussions when I thought my comments were relevant. It is not the same place it used to be so I will take your comments to heart. If I can figure out how to do it I will delete my account today and you can fade to black.
