Title: Stiff opening SxS shotgun
Post by: Flinch Morningwood on June 06, 2006, 12:52:48 PM
I just picked an "Enders Special Service" 16 Guage and really like it.  The trouble is I practically have to break it over my knee to open the d**n thing up.

Any suggestions on how to loosen the sucker up a bit???

Sarah my 16 sxs could do with a SXS stable mate!!

Seriously.....I wouldnt do anything apart  from a little polishing `till ya shot a few rds through it, iffn shes been dormant a good old shake up might jest be the ticket

Use it...

Seriously.

A hundred or so rounds will do more to smooth up the opening sequence than anything else - and will do so as the manufacturer intended - as opposed to 'helping' it.

If it's still stiff after a handful of boxes - 'then' look for high spots to polish - but not before.

Good Luck,

Scouts Out!

Assuming it's a hammerless gun, often what makes it stiff to open is re-cocking.  If it is still stiff after a number of rounds and polishing it may the springs eased up a bit.  The trick of course is to maintain reliable ignition...
