Title: Wild Idea hankering to do
Post by: Major 2 on March 23, 2025, 11:50:37 AM
In a nutshell (emphasis on NUT)

I have a hankering to make a 5-magazine belt pouch for my EMP. (seen here)

Why? just cause  :-\
I've never seen any produced (maybe there is a good reason for that)
So, the gun is single stack 9MM and I happen to have 6 Mag's.
 that cause enough I guess....

I made a mold and will wet form the leather, probably 6 oz.
for the pouches and something a bit thicker for the backing and belt keeper....

Any suggestions or comments?

Hi Major,

Covered pouches or open topped?

I assume a belt with the magazine holders looped over the belt.

Will Ghormley's Hand of God Rig for 1911's has a pattern for a belt and magazine carriers.  The Magazine carriers are covered, in pairs, and held on the belt with a loop on the back side.  That's on my list to make.

If you do or don't use Will's pattern, I would make the pouches in pairs.  You can never have too much ammo, an extra magazine or three won't hurt.   ;D

Just my $0.02

I agree about making pouches in twos. A longer one might be a bit difficult to place on your belt anywhere other than directly across the back.

Here's one I made. The pouches are open and the mags stay in just fine but it would work to make them covered, too.

Maybe you are right and that's why no one offers one.

I may scale back to 3 pouches

Good call, three would work. One thing I found was to allow a little extra room between the pouches so the mags don't interfere with each other, especially when pulling them out. Notice I have two stitch lines 3/16" or 1/4" apart between mine.

Also, I made a couple hardwood mag blanks to wet mold the pouches after it was assembled.

Howdy all
I used Wills wild bunch patterns, and was happy with the results, I had my main computer take a fall or I could dig out the photos, Will is show casing his above, I like the design, it's straight forward, and the mag pouches work well,I'll post those photos if I can recover them

 :) Hi Guys  :D

I apologize as I don't have Tin Types, but in my sordid past, "Before" SASS got hold of Wild Bunch, I had a double strong side 1911 rig made with some really nice double Mag Pouches, for a total of six Mags.  The pouches looked like Will's except mine had snapped flaps.  Also, mine were originally made too deep and I had to cobble up wood spacers in the bottom and then just fold the flaps over to the back side.

The purpose of "the above" was to agree with Marshall Will.  Make 'em in doubles.  A solid six pack would be ungainly me thinks.  Burma Shave

wiser thoughts, thanks Gents its reason I posted...

So, if I take a que from Poker a Pair beats a California lowball. (5 lowest cards)
and two pair defeats a pair.
2 pair it will be  :)

Looking forward to seeing them. One other thing, I used 8-9 oz veg tan for the back and belt loop. For the pouches I used 5-6 oz because it molds easier.

We just moved and I'll have to see if I can find it. If I find it, I'll be glad to share it.

I found that I had made a pattern as an image so here it is.

Stitch the sides and center of the pouches on first. Then fold the back down and stitch it and the bottom of the pouches at the same time.

Here's a little larger photo of the pouch itself.
