Title: WTS: H&R 1871 Buffalo Classic, .45-70
Post by: Oregon Bill on March 12, 2025, 11:36:51 AM
This is a new, unfired Buffalo Classic single shot rifle made by Harrington and Richardson -- H&R 1871 -- in .45-70 caliber. Twist rate of the 32-inch heavy barrel is 1:20, I believe. Stocks are walnut with nice figure. These rifles came factory-fitted with a Williams peep rear sight and Lyman globe front -- and the Lyman inserts come with it along with the original literature. The box is from H&R, but not original to this particular rifle. Comes with a bag of 100 new Starline brass, a set of new Lee .45-70 dies and a new Lee 459-405 HB hollow base bullet mold. Asking $700 shipped to your FFL from a non-licensee. These had a reputation for accuracy when they were popular as an affordable single-shot back in SASS/CAS days. Not looking for trades, thanks.

Bill, is that the same thing as the H&R Handi-Rifle?

The frames are very similar, but some are stronger than others and I honestly have forgotten the difference. Have read that this one can take Marlin pressures and more, but recoil becomes an issue without a stock weight. Thanks for asking!  ;)

I'm pretty unfamiliar with them but have always heard the Handi-Rifle is so fast to reload that they are desirable for certain categories like Plainsman.  Good luck!
