Happy New Year!
Our 2025 is starting out rough. We went to Pigeon Forge TN for our family get together. My Missus came down with the flu yesterday, so we came home today, a day early. But good travel back, the good Lord was watching us.

Mine is a '95 with the 3.9 V6.Somewhere around 300,000 on it, but to be honest I've about completely used up the parts truck I bought right after I got it.Right now it's on "farm duty only" until I have the time, and better weather to fix some front end issues and get the rear brakes back to working.

Well. It is a 2004 instead of a 2007, 4.7L V8 instead of the 5.2L V8. The 4.7L was designed by AMC for the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

They've been threatening us with a blizzard and ice storm here, for the last few days. did get some freezing rain last night, but not a lot. We don't have to go anywhere farther than the chicken coop, so it doesn't matter. Church will be "online" this week. Said it might be like the 2007 ice storm. Not even close(so far).  In '07 I was without power for something like a week or 10 days. Should be good this time, the electric co-op spent the whole summer in my area clearing right of ways.

Plumbing check, so I'm up anyway, temp's @ 40 degrees.
The guessers were saying mid 30's does not look like the chill they expected made the show.
We will see 40 degrees the next few mornings, and just North of Orlando will have hard freeze warnings but not here.

I had to replace the solar fence charger and string new wire. The old unit gave up the ghost and the beastie figured it out Toot sweet.
The downside is the new unit has to charge 3 days in sunlight, before the unit can be activated. Therein lies the rub, we've had mostly overcast.

Setting the coffee pot for AM's 1st. light and back to the log pile... later gators

Well the temps are in the 20s here, clear right now but Thursday heavy snow is coming through. Could be up to 5-6", thankfully no ice forecast. We got out today and went to the Post Office, Bank and then the dreaded Walmart. We made it home safely, even though we weren't in our pajamas. Homemade soup and bread for dinner tonight.

Anyway, not much to report. Been busy with "things."

Currently in Palisades, CA, fighting the Palisade fire. It's bad. We're on break at the moment. Been at it for almost 10 hours now, probably another 24 before we're released for bed.

Further update as events warrant.

We survived the night. Sounds like others may not have been as lucky.

Between 10pm-5am we got the worst of the Santa Ana, winds sustained at 50mph+, and gusts 100 or more. We've been working as a Strike Team of USFS engines from the north state, going behind the fire front and trying to save houses. Mixed results on that.

We pulled a 30 hour shift, before we got relieved for 10 hours rest. Right now I'm dealing with getting a set of new tires for our utility truck right now. Lost 3 to nails last night, and the fourth to a wrench burins by ashes in a pothole.

We're still doing okay.

They are 16 & 17, so far grand thief auto & criminal mischief.
However, they did have another stolen gun in possession.

So, if the DA charges them as adults, which is the hope (one of the perps had active warrant) another was on probation.
I they could get 15 -30, (probably won't) they are minors and Hispanic.

Bleeding woke court appointed liberal lawyer will argue,
Probably juvy detention till 18 and released to do crime again.

29 Degrees here, and about 2.5" fluffy white stuff appeared overnight.

M2, someone tried that at our LGS a few years back. Tried to back a stolen truck through the front door. Was stopped by "Eddie the dog". Eddie was a concrete English Setter about 18" tall, they tried to run over him getting to the door. Truck couldn't get over him, so they left and tried the same thing at a few other places, and succeeded at breaking into a convenience store about 20 miles away, and burned it to the ground. Now the LGS has those big concrete "lego" blocks all around it.

A year ago, or so Guy hell bent on Suicide by cop or other means
drove through the store front of a Kydex Holster manufacturer.
That wingnut had room to get his KIA SUV up to about 60+ and was deep inside the show room.
That shop was an FFL too, the dude took one on the guns and offed himself.
The store itself sustained entire frontal damage and internal wreckage.
The kicker was the store is just over 100 yard from the Police Sub station on main street, cops were on seen in 2 minutes.
He was already history by his own hand.

Last nice day here, going in the deep freeze, wern't much for snow last I looked.

Just not as good as I used to be plus I wore out another diamond stone, not forever, about 15 years.  Got 3 flat diamonds, 3 grits for touch up but got one of them multi-stone one that clamps and has an arm and a bunch of different grits.  Get if figured out yesterday, going to go through all my knives a little at a time, set the angle for what they need and finish them up with the grit needed.  Going to order the diamond ones for it also so I don't need honing oil in my dining nook. ;D

Morning all. Or afternoon now, I suppose. Depends on your time zone. But I digress.

Not much going on here today. Mrs TK had the day off, so we're taking a lazy day. I have to go to the local Boot Barn and pick up a new hat that I ordered before going south. They've been holding it for almost 2 weeks. It's a Stetson, and one of 2 "real" hats that the USFS approves for wear in uniform.

I don't recall if I mentioned it before, and I'm too lazy to look, but Mrs and I celebrated 3 years of matrimony on the 3rd, with just enough time to grab breakfast at a local joint before I got sent south. We might do something more after payday.

Morning y'all.
Coffee and tea are hot.

Back to verk. Area schools are closed because of the cold temps.
#3 daughter, Micah and I have a CPR/AED certification class at 1700-2100. It was supposed to be at the local tech college center, but it closed today because of the cold. So, I is now being held at our church since there are 8 parishioners taking the class.

'Tis -16 and clear. WC -35. High of -1.

Hit 15 for a low today, 21 right now. Tomorrow is supposed to start warming up a little. Sad phone call to my boss this morning, a woman called and said that her son had killed himself. He had bought a gun from us on Saturday and killed himself this weekend [not with the gun he bought from us] and was simply asking if he had shown any signs that worried us. I was the one who sold him the gun and he seemed quite normal. Just a sad event and a tragedy for the family.

I'll be praying for the family, Deacon.

Amazon was here.  Gonna buy the heavy stuff from them and put my cart outside to put it on. Also buying stuff that is hard to get or takes a long trip.  100 mile round trip for the Bob's mill stuff and it's hit and miss sometimes.  The White Lily, who knows, going to try it, got to see if it really is better and worth the higher price.

Greetings all.

Warm and sunny today, high of about 70. Spent most of the day being lazy, with notable excursions to remove and replace blankets on the horse.

Hopefully this picture attaches, and I can show my hat.

Morning all.

It seems a tragedy has befallen our household: my cast iron pan, which had been seasoned nicely enough to not even need butter to fry eggs, must now be reseasoned. On Friday, I cooked some pork chops, which had been marinaded in a mixture containing vinegar. I put a little water in the pan after cooking to soften the spice mixture that had collected on the bottom, and then was called away to an emergency (some piles on a prescribed burn had escaped). The pan was placed in the oven to get it out of the way, and promptly forgotten about until last night when the oven was preheated to cook a frozen pizza. It was then discovered after having much of the water boiled out, with the majority of cooking surface now being bare metal. My bacon and eggs just don't taste the same cooked in a nonstick pan this morning.  :-\

In other news, I have about 18 hours worth of computer based training to complete this week at work, which will be a lot of fun, he says sarcastically.

Scrub it with soap and water then dry it.  Put a light coat of oil on it, if it's black it's OK, if grey you did a less than good job of seasoning.  I write books and you just chew on the PDF. ;D

Morning all.

37, heading for 60, and light overcast.

Today's plan is computer stuff in the office, so that will be fun.

Del, with this pan, I had sanded down a couple little casting imperfections (they would catch the spatula and it annoyed me), but left the majority of the factory season untouched. I then coated the whole bottom in a very light coat of avocado oil (what I had on hand), and baked at 455, which is as high as my oven goes. It worked great. But with this boiling vinegar excursion, it got under a section of the factory season and started flaking away it looked like.some of the coating I had put on remained, but there was a lot of bare metal.  Whatever the cause, it's reseasoned now, and back to business as usual. Though the eggs don't quite slip around like they used to yet.

The avocado likely did not fully carbonize because it has a smoke point of around 520F.  See what happens though.  Been thinking of trying it myself do to the high smoke point, for some things.  Will hide it though, people will think I'm a Yuppie with that stuff around, 35 years ago the Yuppies were all going nuts over Canola oil. ::)

Timely subject, I guess. Got 3 pans in the oven now getting seasoned/re-seasoned. One is a new steel frying pan, about 6" that I plan to use for solo camping (If that ever happens again) Another is a #8 Wagner, as old as I am (I believe it was wedding present to my Mom) It looks good but eggs stick. Other is a deep Griswold "chicken fryer". Used avocado oil, oven is at 500.

Afternoon all.

45 and proverbial toad choking weather today. Good soup weather, which I may take advantage of.  ::)

Yesterday I received my Prescribed Fire Burn Boss qualification. We burned 15 acres at 5000ft elevation as my final training assignment. So now I get to lead prescribed burns by myself. Comes with no financial incentive, but does look good on my resume I suppose. I also got qualified as an Engine Operator while I was working the Palisade fire, which was a requirement for this promotion I got. All that to say, I've been busy.

Mrs TK is in bed with some sort of respiratory illness, so I'm likely next. Taking vitamin C and drinking soup, so fingers crossed.
