Title: Rear sight ramp
Post by: Iron City Sage on December 13, 2024, 05:45:58 PM
So, last match my wife was missing her rifle targets. Which isn't like her.....finally noticed her rear sight ramp was missing. I got the replacement, but man, is there a trick to getting it on the rifle that sight is tight! Thanks!

Uberti 1873, buckhorn type spring rear sight. Doesn't even look like this type ramp will work. I ordered from factory, but no idea how it's even possible-The spring piece in front of the buckhorn is solid not slotted like my 1866 is. So what kind of ramp does this take?

Comparison photos, 1873 has no slot in the sight spring, the 1866 does. What part do I need? Thanks!

Edit-sorry, photos from my phone are somehow too large to post here even super cropped....maybe someone will understand what I'm trying to say here.

I usually resize on my laptop but recently noticed that I can do it on my Android phone in the picture edit mode. Pressing the 3 dots gave me the option. Surely Iphones can do it too. Just  ask a kid  :D

Sure, no problemo  :) glad to.

Are you talking about the stepped piece that raises the sight in graduations ?

I think I understand what you're talking about, but without pictures, we're only guessing.  It sounds like your rear buckhorn is not a Winchester sight, but a Marbles buckhorn.  The missing piece you're looking for is the elevator.  Winchester elevators were mounted in a center slot as pictured above. Marbles elevators were one piece, that slid under the ears and had the elevation notches on both sides of the slide.  Pictures are worth a thousand words.

A question first.  Did you buy the rifle New or Second hand?  The reason for the question is from your description above  'The spring piece in front of the buckhorn is solid not slotted' it sounds like the rear sight is a replacement 'Marbles' sight.  It uses a totally different step.  Like this one --- https://oldarmsofidaho.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Marbles-Rifle-Rear-Sporting-Sight-Step-1st-Variation-Elevation-Graduations-scaled.jpg

For this total finished looking sight.  https://d3bwi25h038moc.cloudfront.net/assets/products/223269/images/main-image.jpeg

PS -- Sorry, I was typing this up but it was not finished until after Buck posted with the same type of answer.  I did get the warning that some else posted before me but I said to post before read his posting.  So, just look at the links I posted as pictures of your issue.

Thanks all. Marbles one ordered. Yea it was a second hand purchase, so surely an aftermarket sight.
