Morning all.

40 and overcast here, headed for 60. White stuff if the high country above 5000ft.

Speaking of white stuff ::)

I spent most of yesterday trying to get a 2wd dually pickup off the mountain after it got stuck in the sn*w. It was a case of malicious compliance that lead to the event. Boss man wanted that particular truck taken up the mountain because he said so, even after all of us locals who grew up driving that road in the snow said it was a bad idea. So o took it up, got it stuck, and then had to back it up for 2 miles along the edge of a rather precipitous cliff. The overall mission was not completed, but everyone got off the mountain no worse for wear. I think I got my point across.

Del, PM inbound.

I will not discuss bosses on such a nice day. ;D

Riley told me last night before dark that something was up with the Lutherans out behind, when I woke up from our nap.

The town Trunk or Treat.  We took our candy over there and got a spot by the ambulance.  Met more of the people, Robin, the kids and my mom showed up.  Robin was telling all her friends I was her Grandpa.  Riley got a lot of attention and Good Boys.  ;D

Other than that ain't been out since a week yesterday, didn't need to. food card pay day, going to Unadilla for food bank, one in Palmyra in a week or so.  Stop at Syracuse and check that grocery store out, need a few items.  Could go to Dunbar but not much but the Dun Bar, hear they have decent food.   All them places and don't have to Go to New York, but we do have a plain York west of me. ;D

No signs of snow here yet, supposed to be pretty here today in the 70s and sunny. Still waiting on my Rolling Block to arrive, it seems to have the Postal Service here in Arkansas bewildered as it has gone from Clinton, to Little Rock, to Fayetteville and now is heading to Little Rock again. TK glad you got the truck down with no injuries and Del sounds like you had a fun time at the Trick or Treat.

There is a well know adage a WDW (Walt Disney World)
Disney employee leads or supervisors that are wrong and make the most stupid technical
discissions, are promoted to higher positions.
Where the earlier blunders, are hidden from view and become non-binding.

Headed to Tecumseh in a bit, got a food bank giveaway. I need some dog food, not out, just not trusting our weather.  I need coffee also, with those it can snow us in a week or so, no problem.  I won't go anywhere if there is snow or ice on the road.  Do not plan on cleaning the car at all, will let solar and wind do it. ;D

Well didn't get far, it's only flat on the bottom.  It was the spare that didn't get put back where it belongs.  No place I have to go, daughter is going to pickup coffee and dog food.  Both kids agree I need road service and have been ordered not to try and change it.  Well I know that. ::)

I have ham and bacon, plus smoked hog jowls, might be fun. ;D

Well lets see.

Here in beautiful downtown San Antonio, on the riverwalk, we have a balmy 85 degrees, and are watching the weather news.

Cuba was crushed by the huricane, California and parts of New Jersey are on fire
and Winter Storm Anya ( spawned by huricane Raphael ) has the entire Front Range of Colorado socked in from north of
Denver all along I25 past the New Mexico Border. I 40 from Tejas ( texas for the illiterati )
To Albuquerque is bumper to bumper.

Fortunately the technorati at the airlines saw this coming, texted us, and gave us the option to change flights without any fee incurred. We are leaving early ( in 45 minutes instead of 3pm ) and going thru houston instead oj denver.

God Willing we will make it home today.

83° and mostly cloudy, 51% rain, all as an eastern outfall of Raphael.
No real concerns of any heavy weather here as a result of same.

Had to retire the Cen. Air cond. system in the house...
in Florida they are both indispensable and heavy worked and relied on.
So. my system (Lenox) served me well for almost 13 years.
Having replaced the earlier Carrier system @ 10-11 years.

So, the new (Lenox) unit was installed in 6 hours.
At 20 seer it will save Electricity, is controllable by Bluetooth
and my smart phone when away.

Safe travels Prof! 66 here today and cloudy with heavy rain in the forecast. Heading out in a few minutes to have dinner at Golden Corral, I love the place but my Missus hates buffets, so while she's out of town I'm gonna hit the place. Just ordered the shell holder for the Rolling Block, so hopefully can get it running soon.

Remember those that served, Today is special.
God bless and thank you.

The Grand Army of the Republic Memorial Hall in the photo, was built in 1914 by members of the GAR as a memorial to the Union Army veterans of the Civil War.
This period photo was taken on dedication day.
The building still stands in St. Cloud, Fla, and is the last remaining GAR original building in the South.

The kids came down Sat and brought my new to me desk, helped or rather did some moving heavy stuff and told me, Robin and Riley to get out of the way.  They changed my flat tire, other daughter got me AAA now.

Made Swiss steak the other day, eye of round, cut with a spoon, got a second one froze.  Was hungry for it, needed pictures actually and easy camp meal I will write a doc on.  Was not a favorite of Rita so didn't make it often, vacuum freezes well so will make some more for the freezer when they get the one I'm getting to me.

Going to the county seat today, need dog food and a program and book signing at the historical society.  Book on my Great-great Grandpa, helped the guy with research, found where the homestead was, one of the first settlers in the county.  Was not able to go look it over, couldn't walk that far, found the owners name and he got permission.

On wait on phone with DHHS. ;D

Went to the sorta big city yesterday. ::)

Had echogram or what ever they call it, heart is about the same as last year.

Got main bunch of groceries for the month. Spent about $200 got $125 or so left on EBT Card till the 5th.  Should be fine except will have to run to Tecumseh for some fresh fruits and veggies if the roads don't get bad, otherwise I have called.  Couldn't get into Costco, no handicap and no mart carts, could have anyway but will just wait till the 5th now.  Have a Medicare physical that day anyway.  Got what I need, just didn't stock heavy on some thing.

Got 5 pounds of cheese, still had 4 in stock.  Got a pound of coffee to go with the pound or so I have.  P Butter, some more flour and yeast.  Forgot anchovies but got It sausage, sauce and mushrooms so pizza will be fine, got tuna and salmon, the real stuff, have plenty canned.  Got some veggies and fruit, esp onions, Rita looks down a lot and says that she can smell them onions clear up there and smiles.  Cooking and grocery shopping has changed a bit.

Got 2.76 lb of decent burger, going to make taco type meat and freeze most.  Got some chopped steak, still have about 4 lb of eye of round and about 6 of boneless pork chops, over 300 tea bags for iced tea.  Should be OK till the 5th. ;D

Signed up for low income dog food, good stuff can get a 5 lb twice a month, not enough but it sure helps, daughter can take my card and pick it up.  I used to complain about license prices but old people and fixed dogs get a big discount and that helps pay for the program.  They have decided recently pets are good for old people. ;)

They are entertaining.  He got his bowl the other night because it was empty and dropped it by my desk on his blanket.  I didn't jump right away and he started dragging it on the blanket.  Saw the phone and hid his head. ;D

I got put on Medicaid, seems to have happened and never got the notification that system is a mess right now.  Oldest daughter was that sickly girl that fought for it in Congress a few years back.  Tomorrow she is taking my Mom down and seeing why she got rejected.  They messed hers up and she had to pay some money out for Medicare she shouldn't of had to and seems to have brought fire and brimstone on them.

I have to unload car, got RVS and Flu shots today.  Drs office don't even offer covid ones anymore.  Didn't want it anyway.

Got a lot of groceries in Lincoln today, need a few more things I'll get next Tuesday and I can hunker down.  So far I only have two more trips to Lincoln this year.

Quote from: Major 2 on November 19, 2024, 09:25:02 AMCold (Cool) Front headed here overnight it will mix with the last Gasp of TS Sara.
We'll get rain in the AM.

The big Rain mass (ahead of the cold front and Sara remnants) passed well to the South of us.
Its cloudy, but no rain as yet and not much expected.
Quite different than the forecast we saw the last few days.
The front should be thru here by noonish.
Lower 40's forecasted for Thursday & Friday.

Coffee & toast with Concord grape jelly was the morning repass.
Gonna, work on a "Bug Out Bag" emergency EDC, I have one but I'm adding some items.

Not all I got by far, but the most important stuff.  Was almost out of paper products but first I bought since early Aug.  Meat and cheese and coffee I was OK on, but don't hurt.  We could get snow sometime and I ain't going out in it.

Likely the one that hit the Northern Iowegions so hard.  Upper 40's today with gusts to 50mph.  Not much now, going to below freezing the next few nights, WC is going to be bad up here by the water tower.  Good things I'm holing up and my door is on the east side with two windbreaks to the north.

We4nt out before church this morning, got a young doe with the 03/A3 Springfield. I'm going to have to use something different, though, for the rest of the season. A combination of "old eyes", low light, and that razor thin front sight make for difficult shooting. Got a bad shot and had to trail it and take a second shot to finish it. That rifle has already been drilled and tapped, maybe I'll make it into an "03/A Faux".

Survived the Holiday, went to the daughters that lived close.  Food was OK, she has really bad Celiacs and my kitchen is like the meth lab of gluten.  Her daughter and husband have to keep all snacks with gluten in the garage and eat them out there then wash hands and brush teeth.

Her and her MIL did a good job with what they could do, but came home and made Riley and me pizza because I got hungry again and he always is.  Canadian bacon or rather pressed ham in small circles called such. Am limited to what I can get with out going to the city.  Tend to stock up but won't buy to much, Costco and the local Big Box will help by just asking, full service is a given.  It's the getting them in, no steps but not at the door parking.  One or two trips are OK, but several gets stuff carried in that can be ruined, depending on the weather that day.  So I shop carefully, I still have stuff on the list that are semi-important.  Well stocked though.

I have friend that pokes fun at me when I say "we'll have 40-ish weather or maybe mid 30's.
He lives in Iowa and mid 30's or way less might be his HIGH.  :o

However, we native tropical flatlanders can take high humid temps that otherwise melt and render pooped-out the snowbirds. (Take I said, not really enjoy)
But I do enjoy the cool snaps we do get.
I have been in Yankeedom, in single digits, Homie no like  :o

Working in my Loading Rm/man cave rearanging some items to accommodate a new to me artifact. Early Viet Nam era issue Air Force S&W Combat Masterpiece holster.
Sadly, collecting these things has become almost out or reach.

Just got up and had coffee, Riley and I had energy and stayed up late doing tasks.  First project today is take these patterns to the trash.  They are from the nieces wedding in 2019 just before we got sick.  He was 4-5 months old and spent the time down in the sewing room with them.  I'm sure he knows, he made a nest last night and keeps going back and forth to them or his nest with her velor blanket by my desk.
