The Great Southwest is definitely into its monsoon pattern. Desperately needed water from above is arriving!

The rain was instrumental with containment of the  Ginormous Ruidoso Fire, but is now causing floods in areas with the burn scars
From current and prior fires.

From "KOB4" news

" RUIDOSO, N.M. — The South Fork Fire and the Salt Fire are at least 84% contained Monday, and neither fire has grown since last week.

South Fork Fire: 17,569 acres (was 17,556 acres Tuesday 6/25; was 16,349 Thursday night 6/20; Tuesday night 6/18; 5,252 acres Monday night 6/17)
Salt Fire: 7,939 acres (was 7,947 acres Tuesday 6/25; was 7,652 Thursday night 6/20; was 7,071 acres Tuesday night 6/18; 3,102 acres Monday night 6/17)
Containment of the South Fork Fire is now at 84%. The Salt Fire is at 85%. This is all as of Tuesday, July 2. Containment of the South Fork Fire was at 73% Friday, It was 69% Thursday, 64% Wednesday and 54% Tuesday. The Salt Fire was at 71% Friday, which was up from 66% Thursday, 55% Wednesday and 38% Tuesday."

My JD maintenance completed. plugs, fuel filter and replace the blades.
Hamburgers and brats on my grill, but a heavy shower in the process forced me deeper under the cover of the porch.

Did some surfing the net for some additional Enfield SmLE history.

Plans today, visit the Toy Store and perhaps Sushi ....

Update: I decided to shoot my SmLE a little.
I just came in a bit ago before it got TOOOO hot outside.
Added my fireworks as it were to the sounds, I thought it a bit ironic, popping off the 4th 5th of July with a British rifle, fun though  :)

Had a nice 4th here, ribs and corn on the cob. Got family coming tomorrow for my g'niece's 16th B'day party, so the Missus has been cooking all day. Finally got temps down into the low 90s for a couple of days. Cross your fingers that it will stay that way so I can shoot Saturday [that is if my boss doesn't HAVE to have me at work].

Morning y'all.
Coffee and iced tea are ready.

Had a colon blockage on Wed night and couldn't sleep because of the pain. Got it cleared via a colonic (5 gal enima). Took 2 hours. Still couldn't sleep because of the tenderness in my guts. Slept a few hours Thurs afternoon and Friday morning. The gut tenderness is not so much that I can sleep with a couple pain relievers. I get these every once in a while, but this was the worst. A positive is a lost 10 pound.  ::)
That was the fun I had over the holiday.  ::)

'Tis 68 and partly sunny. High of 78.

WOW! Slim, glad you are on the mend .

Wound up not going to the Toy Store and Sushi yesterday, so I'm going today.
Did pop off some 303 British, just for Ha ha's  :)
We had some HOT days, so I've been doing extraocular stuff before 10AM-ish and after 6PM-ish...

Yup Slim, glad to hear you are better, that is miserable. Party goers left a bit ago to go watch fireworks so the place is empty for a bit. Got my Sunday School lesson ready for tomorrow and I will be preaching our Wednesday Night message at Prayer Meeting. Average day at work today, hate to wish someone ill, but a guy pawned a super nice AR pistol today and I want it! [drool, drool...]

Speaking of AR's ....
The local VFW Post holds a raffle for a rifle every year on or near Independence Day.
My farrier is a post member, from whom I buy my ticket each year.
Anyway, the drawing was last night, the prize is a AR 15 Diamondback.
I'm hoping I get the call ; D as the Lucky Duck.

For those in Texas and points north in the hurricanes path  :( my hopes and best wishes.

If Y'all could keep my Mom in your thoughts and prayers, She'll be 90 in Dec and just had surgery for colon cancer. They removed a section of her colon along with a tumor that was 3 centimeters big. it will go to the lab to be checked out. She's a little confused due to the effect of anesthesia and being in a strange place(Hospital) Thanks.

Howdy folks, was busy at the LGS today, there were just two of us and we were hopping all day. Had a good week this week. Picked up the Missus' 40th Anniversary gift this week, had her wedding diamond remounted into a new band that she picked up and is thrilled with it. Yesterday a friend helped me with a Stoeger shotgun, showing me several tricks to smooth it up, a really nice couple of hours. Temps have finally gotten back to normal, running in the upper 80s and not as humid.

Went and got my second of 4th a year haircut, had a coupon.
It's some ridicules the cost, VS what little hair I have left.  ::)
So, I fight back with just 4 visits yearly and the coupon which saves me $6 (course I still tip the girl)
Gas was down a bit, so I filled up.  A nap was in order!

This morning, I chained saw a couple of branches hanging over my driveway. They were nearly reaching the SUV's as you drove down and out. (or IN).
One has to work early before the sun gets to mid-morning, reached 97° yesterday.

Regarding haircuts.... For nearly 15 years I did not cut my hair, either tied it up in a ponytail with leather thongs or asked SWMBO to braid it for special events, usually special dinners, powows, etc.

Then in 2006 while working on the New Mexico house I had some close calls with ladders and power tools and gave myself a buzz cut.

It was oddly.... Refreshing.

Since them I followed youtoob directions to cut it myself when it began to irritate me. In prior times that was "overheating" or scratchy on the neck, but these days it gets cut whenever the hair starts to rustle my hearing aids lol .....

When I was an early teen, my hair was silky fine, long, and sun-lightened, in a surfer cut.
It never reached my shoulders, but close enough.
Later, thru adulthood it was all so often well over my ears and off the collar.

Somewhere in my 4 decade I began to part it in the middle, not by choice BTW.
Now days I maintain the shag around a nude beach.

Goodevening all, a few sprinkles today 83 right now. Put some seat covers on my Kia Carnival today, my holstered gun was rubbing the seat material. Then after that started fighting with a new laptop, it seems really nice, my old one is starting to have "issues", so doing a download/backup of the old one to a hard drive while the new one does it's stuff. Gonna work tomorrow, yesterday was a decent day there. Supposed to be in the 80s here the rest of the week with rain most days, then drying out and up to the low 90s [normal] the next week. My Dad said when I was a kid that I was gonna have a haircut short enough that folks would know I was a boy from any direction, guess I just got used to it, I've always kept it short.

BIG thunderstorm over the weekend. Lost power. So, first real trial of the "easy peasy electric start 3 fuel 13 kw genset"
Worked like a champ!

https://www.duromaxpower.com/collections/generators/products/duromax-xp13000hxt-13000-watt-500cc-tri-fuel-gas-propane-natural-gas-portable-generator-with-co-alert

Turned on lp, pushed the starter button and once it was running i threw the giant "mad scientist" switch.

https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61HmcLSV70L._SX522_.jpg

Runs everything ! Aircon, electric oven, fridge and two freezers, tv, dish, and all interweb crap.

Put the shotgun by the door and we ran solo for the next 4+ hours.

Now i need to build a little cinderblock genset doghouse, keep it quiet and keep the mice out.

Yhs prof mumbles

Was in the low 80's and humidity was not off the clock, so I got out and did some yard work.
Now 86 and building toward 97 or so...Cooled off in the pool, and now inside.
I had allowed some of the larger over-hanging branches I cut last week to brown off some.
They are easier to cut up and drag off with the tractor that way.
That project is now complete at least for a while.

Going to make a shrimp cocktail for lunch, they were on sale yesterday.  :)

Stay mobile, but stay cool  :D
