The conversions are using my own manufactured thick plates. One will be fixed with a loading cutout, the other
will rotate to expose the cartridge cutout. Based on historical photos.

The tape is indicating "where to cut" since I am olanning on cutting as short as the cylinder pin will allow, then add an ejector tube aparatus.

LOL the tang site is a lyman, I was holding it on with tape whilst I decided what position would actually work while firing, and neither poke me in the eye or bloody other bite.... It has since been drilled and tapped and mounted correctly.

:) People will little note nor long remember (Quote some famous guy) but it absolutely must be noted, those of us Sidewalk Superintendents, whom observe your projects, will be more than willing to express misguided suggestions, ask inane questions and poke fun at your Ooopsies.  'Cause atz wat we does.  Mostly.

Cutting those Remingtons is a capital idea.  'Cause I really don't like Remingtons.  There, "see" pointless criticism without even a suggested improvement.

Your Welcome  ::)

Well, since I am a well-known cheapskate frugalist, when I saw cheap "hawken ish" and surplus swedish mauser stocks on fleabay and J&G for a pittance, I snagged a few, combining shipping. I have several 1895 mauser complete actions needing stocks, and some arisaka bits, and I also knew that trapdoor or or springfield stocks cost a minor fortune.

As expected, the mauser '95 is a drop in, the arisaka is almost , and the trapdoor needs minimal fitting.

I will endevour to persevere....
Most "shop based" projects are on hold-ish whilst I get the new shop changed from SWMBO'd storage into "my shop" .
Which in turn is on hold until I get her sewing room and art room in usable shape (ie not cluttered with her boxes) .
Which is on hold until we finish the back deck and small greenhouse finished so she can repot, and plant her container veggies garden.  ::)

Small stuff like leather projects, barrel shortening and pistol bluing continues in whatever space I can steal that day.

Inletting the swedish mauser stock for a trapdoor is no more difficult than inleting a flintlock stock. Easier in many ways since most of
The chunky stuff is already hogged out. I plan to cut the muzzle shorter to fit the stock as a mannlicher-liek style.
And I want to use one swede with one 95 mauser action for a gen u ine mannlicher.

Did you know that the Yugo 59/66 sks barrell threads right into a 95 action?  Since the 1895 mauser actions were proofed at ~ 57,000 psi
It should handle the ~47k psi sks rounds just fine.

One of the "hawken-like" halfstocks will be going for a gemmerized trapdoor action.

I can't imagine why the swedish stocks were going so cheap ... ~$30 at the time!
Probly should have gotten more....

good news:

this Model 19 is the "take-down" and whilst funky, it still works fine. So, i scored a complete barrel and magazine assembly off
fleabay and shortened it to either 20" or 22", I forget. and its in the other shop....

I have nice correct checkered wood from fleabay ,so replacement is in order.

interestingly, after I cleaned many years of grime off the buttstock, I discovered some prior owner had scribed
his name on it, apparently witha proper tool such as a nail....

I tracked the culprit down using census data from Chicago, ca 1920 - 1930 ish. then I tracked down my grandparents
Chicago adress. Fun fact - within blocks of each other!

The family story goes that grandpa had a job with a "laundry" driving a "laundry delivery truck".

I am familiar with some of the activities of the time, and small-time mob booze supply to restaurants
was handled with such a cover. By also running the laundry this also set the stage for the "protection"
guys to track how much busines the restaurant did by counting napkins and tablecloths.

Oh and grandpa made beer in the attic ( funny story about bottles bursting one summer) and Grandmom
bragged about putting on "cold cut spreads" for some bootlegger guys...

Sooooo ... we have surmised that grandpa decided he needed some sort of protection, and bought the shotgun
used from the prior owner, along with a box of paper hunting shells. The shells crumbled long ago....

Knowing the provenance of a old piece, is as much fun as having the piece itself.
Your granddads Marlin is an heirloom worthy of its pedestal.

There is an old family story, about my Grandads muzzleloader.
It was in the late 1920's, the Folks had purchased a cabin in Highlands, NC. as a summer residents.
(Sidebar- Highlands, is where my Dad met my Mom and they married in 1929)
Anyway, the cabin had a fireplace, and someone suggested a rifle was needed over the mantle.
So, that is how it was acquired, it was gift and rather old even then.

Now, a family narrative told of a feral hog my Grandfather had shot.
It was relayed in the handed down tale he had misplaced the ramrod, upon dressing out the hog, found a portion of ramrod completely embedded in the body cavity.
Apparently, leaving the ramrod in the barrel by accident when he shot.

By the time I came along the old rifle was a relic, the nipple bolster had rusted and broken off.
Somewhere along the way (decades) my uncle had replaced a long-lost lock retaining screw.
The bore was a sewer pipe.
It was an old common, nothing fancy hardware store shooter, certainly not a fine carved relic.
But it was cool, and I retained stewardship for many years.
I passed it on in the 1990's to my sister for her new home's fireplace.
Sadly, she passed 4 years ago, I don't know if her son still has it, we don't converse,  :(

One must carefully allocate ones space, or spaces as it twer.  Master Bedroom = 700 square feet.  Master Bathroom = 600 Square Feet.  Living Room = 200 square feet.  Kitchen = 400 Square Feet.  Primary Work Space (shop) 3000 Sq Feet.  Remaining Square Footage is available for negotiation with SWMBO  :D

You can never have too many projects. Enjoyed your Marlin story Professor. I have too many of them hanging around my shop. Shot my M24 last Saturday at my cas club, only one revolver miss and came in 2nd. I also enjoyed your Grandads muzzle loader story Roger. I seem to remember a b&w movie where the frontiersman hero was being pursued by indians. He was picking them off with his flintlock and running. The last warrior was charging across a shallow stream while the hero was hiding behind a log was frantically reloading his muzzleloader. At point blank he fires the ramrod into the indian's chest. Can't remember the films name but remember that scene.

My Dear Deacon

FIRST LOOK HERE

https://centerfiresystems.com/swedish-mauser-m96-rifle-hardwood-stock/
They have some as cheap as I paid, and they can probly ship cheaper than me.

If you dont like the above
Please stand by! I will have to go to the old house and the old shop and start looking!
I may be willing to let the pictured one go, since it would be as easy to carve a stock
Out of one of my blanks if i wont have to fill in the magazine well space artistically....

I have the house rented to my friend and handyman, and we are slowly moving my shop stuff over as we clear out Mrs Marvels stored goodies to "new space" .

My friend suggested to SWMBO that we could easily put up a 4 season carport for the cars and turn the climate controlled 2.5 car garage into HER art/craft storage which she can readily access by the purchased but not yet installed stair chair. she jumped at it to my delight.
Which will give me back my new huge shop.
After we finish the veggy garden project.

hard to say definitively.
full screen on slo-mo I saw it is a
long-barreled, shorter-than-half-stock, looks like a pewter ramrod bolster,
single barrel key, crescent buttplate, fancy brass transitional trigger guard, "higher" rear sight, perhaps full buckhorn.
But cannot see the lock or the hammer.
Did not see him prime the piece, so we don't know if its flint or percussion.

If it had been a "fur trade era" show, he would have dropped the rifle and pulled his flint pistol.

Tried to determine the NDN gun, but too blurry.

While not all cas projects I have been messing with my 1917a1 BMG gas gun build and have started yet another. A MG34 built from the remains of my AR/Thompson. Been accumulating bits and bobs. Hoping to get the MG34 butt done this week. This is the 1917/1928 top cover with my homemade windage screw that needs threads. Waiting on a 1/2x14 tpi die.

I'd like to mock-up look-a-like of a MG 34, for my Man cave- loading room...
It wound be a non-firing wall hanger.
Denix makes an acceptable full-size replica but over $350  :(
