Title: My Mod.P
Post by: Macon Due on May 20, 2024, 05:34:15 PM
Howdy Gents
I only have one 'real' Colt. It is a 3rd Generation mod.P in .45 Colt. A few years ago I sent it off for an action job and to have a set of real Elephant Ivories fitted. I don't shoot it a lot as I have a non-Colt or two so I keep it as my BBQ gun. :) I'll attach a picture.

I am surprised you were able to purchase real elephant ivory, what with the restrictions. Or is that a brand name for that manufacturer's polymer grips?

If real ivory, did the grips come with some kind of documentation authenticating the date of harvest to pre-date the international laws prohibiting trafficking in ivory? That would be real handy in case the Feds wanted to hit you with massive fines if questions arose.

Noper it is the name for grips made from real Elephant Tusks. :) My Ivory was imported prior to 1989.

People that aren't knowledgeable are deathly afraid of ivory for no reason. I put ivory on almost all of my single actions and I collect ivory in other forms too.
And, yes, I've had the authorities have lemonade on my front porch while I explained the laws to them.

Hey Macon!  The recent server or software upgrade did away with pictures.  Maybe you can add them back for us.  :)
