Title: need source for Chinese '87
Post by: Reverend P. Babcock Chase on October 02, 2023, 09:59:35 AM
Howdy pards,

My Chinese '87 seems to have a weak hammer spring. It was "professionally" slicked up. Anyone know where I can source a replacement?

Maybe Slaters in house Guns in Tennessee as he does work on 87's. I don't know why anyone would weaken an 87 main spring there is no resistance from the spring when you open the lever. I have 2  87's one is an IAC the other is a Chiappa, both have the drop 2 and run fine. If you cannot find the Phone # for Slaters let me know and I will give it to you after I find it.

:) Reverend Chase  ;)

You might want to contact Chiappa.  Could be their '87 replica and the IAC '87 are close enough??  Worth a try.

Thanks Fellers,

I'm still doing research on the problem. Inclement New England weather has me hunkered, thus reducing range time to an absolute minimum.

The 1887's being imported by Cimarron are Chinese.  They might eventually have parts.

I don't see any lever action shotguns on Cimarron's website. Got a link?

I can't say too much good about Cimarron's website these days - often out of date and hard to navigate - but here it is:

That's pretty cool and the pricing is great - I am guessing if you call the number they have not stocked them in years? How would you even find that?

These particular '87's were brought in from China a few months ago.  Various online dealers have had them and there have been discussions of them here and there.  It appears that while they could use an action job for any serious CAS use, they are fully functional out of the box.

Mine is the latest from Cimarron. Yes, Chinese but rather nicely made. The finish is almost a phosphate type black and does not seem super durable. The action is as slick as gooseshit though. I have not got to try it either due to weather etc. but it functions perfectly with 5 dummy shells in magazine.. It did pinch my trigger finger against the hole in the lever the trigger comes thru but that is fixed.
I really think I am going to love it and the price was good.

If you happen to desire for it to hold 6 in the tube/ carrier, replace the factory spring with a Wolff XP magazine spring cut to 20".

I think that is it.  I can't be certain beacuse another '87 shooter bought a bulk pack and gifted me one.  It definitely works though.
