Title: My new Spencer rifle
Post by: mpdphil on April 06, 2018, 08:35:03 PM
Just picked up this beauty from Lodgewood. It was wearing an M1865 rear sight when I went to look at it, but I had David put an original M1860 sight back on it. I brought it home and took it down, it is 100% as issued during the Civil War. The serial number is 23441 which falls within the block purchased by Massachusetts in 1864. It's still chambered in 56-56, I bought some of those rimfire cases that use a .22 blank from Dixie, gonna shoot it soon.  I LOVE this rifle!

I recently purchased a 'new-to-me' Spencer rifle too (s/n 7774) and learned something new here -- there is a s/n on the underside of the barrel.  I will be checking this.  Thanks
