So my kids had Taco Bell last night and left a couple open packets of hot sauce on the couch. In some way, shape or form, the sauce ended up on my copy of "Packing Iron" and the shepherd made a meal of it. Damn thing is getting expensive to buy nowadays.
SO! The dog did eat your homework. ;D
I sympathize. I loaned my copy to a saddle maker who made me up a holster. I love the holster, but the book came back to me trashed, the back broken.
Some people have no idea how to treat a book belonging to someone else. That's what I don't load out books any more.
I feel your pain Anti and PJ. I had a good book exchange program with a friend way back. We loaned reference books and fiction. Even had it down to buying separate series to make our money go further. He had 10 of my books and I had been better about returning, so I only had two. He fell on hard times so he went to a used bookstore and sold all of mine. Two were rare reference books. I still have his two, we speak seldom and I have never loaned a book since.
I hate to laugh about it, but when you described the situation, I had that Cheech and Chong scene, "No man, its Labrador"
Of course, who leaves a valuable book on the couch with 2 10 years olds, 2 dogs and food? LOL
Loosing your Packing Iron is a hard thing to live with. I'd make the dog buy a new one. ;D
