Title: Couple of new stools and shotgun loop mold
Post by: Corkscrew Tom on March 23, 2013, 05:14:29 PM
Here are two new stools I just completed. They are being raffled off at two nearby shoots this May. One is the Shootout at Leadville in Hanover PA. The other is the Virginia state black powder match.

The other pictures are of a 3D printed plastic piece I designed. It is for wet molding an 1 1/2" 5 oz. strap to make two double 12 ga shell loops that would then be sewn on a belt. To make multiples, just cut a long strap, wet form two then when it dries, wet the next section and slip it around the mold. I designed it in AutoCAD's 3D moldeling program and uploaded it to Shapeways.com and had it made. If anyone has questions about it, let me know.

Thanks all for the compliments!
GunSlick, they are approx 2' tall, fold up flat for nice storage on a gun cart. The legs are joined in pairs and pivot in the middle and the seat hinges and lays flat.
PM me if you want one.

Really nice leather work Tom.  I like your molding form for the shot shell  straps but what really intrigues me is the plastic work itself.  I would really love to see you do a general tutorial for us on that, should you ever have time.  Would this lend itself to wood mock-ups and Plaster of Paris molds?

Slowhand,
The design for the mold was created in a 3D drafting software called AutoCAD Inventor which I used at work. I then sent an electronic file to Shapeways and they 3D printed the plastic part. You can go to youtube and search for 3D printers and see how that process is done. As far as the tutorial to design it, that would be difficult. I might be able to do some screen shots from within the drafting program. But unless you have a working knowledge of how 3D drafting works, it wouldn't make much sense. No offense. There are free downloadable 3D programs that Shapeways will recognize the files from. You can get that info from their website, www.shapeways.com It's a pretty interesting process and making inroads in a lot of manufacturing centers. I read where Ford motor company is using it for some of their prototype work on new designs.

Beautiful stools . . fantastic work!  You can sure be proud of those!

I love the mold also.  Although I don't do "shotgun" - it gives me a great idea for molding 38 spl. loops for sew on or rivet on application.  Thanks for sharing with us . . . . whoever gets those stools are going to really treasure them!   :)

BBB,
Thanks! Yes you could do the same for any cal or gauge. It would work the same.

Cool stools. I've often thought about making one but haven't done so yet. Thumbs up to these. The form for the shot shells is quite something. Very good idea.

WOW Tom, I remember seeing the story on this technology not to long ago.  They even done a bit on it THE BIG BANG THEORY concerning it.  I am afraid I was thinking stone age casting techniques were used and would not even know where to begin asking questions for this!  Thanks for your information as I do want to read up on this a bit.
