Thank GOODNESS!!!!!!! I was in the 8th Marines at Camp Lejeune in 82 when we got word to stop training with the 1911 as a new pistol would be coming out. I had the misfortune of being part of an evaluation team on the m-92. My write up wasnt used as it incorported words like, piece of junk, didnt fit my hand worth a flip, and questionable stopping power. Why the expense of new pistols when an old war horse like the one I was issued will do in a minute. At the time, the big thing was high capacity magazines was the name of the game. My contention, was if I ever had to pull my 45 out and use it, in a full blown fire fight, it was going to be really bad anyway. But when I pull the trigger, I darn sure want the target to go down on one shot, not 2 or 3 or 4.
It's not the entire Corps, just the special operations, and these replace the rather aged 1911s previously being used:
The Marine Corps has tapped Colt Defense LLC to make more than 10,000 new Close Quarter Battle Pistols for the service's elite special operations troops.
