A recipe vault so's folks like Del an' Rooster an' Ruff can fatten us...uh...enlighten us on good food.
Anybody wanna second the motion?
BTW, check out www.wyomerc.com. Thye got some innerestin' recipes over there, too.
Your wish....
:D
I just finished talking with the Marshal. We can have it, we just need a description for it like the other forums have. Any ideas?
"Good Eats. Everybody has to eat, but some folks eat better than others, and some folks eat some unique foods. Gotta cook it to eat it, so here's a place for recipes and discussions on foods of the Old West."
How's that?
AnnieLee
"...here's a place to share recipes and discussions..."
Looks like you got it nailed, Annie.
Call it Forty Rod's Feed Sack. (Don't even consider doing that for real.)
How about "Cosie's Corner and Feed Sack" ?
My son still talks about that non-fruit cake.
:D
AnnieLee
I'm more interested in the contents than the name. Might want to cut some of the cook-types in on it.
DelRod's Chuckwagon?............Get out yer Dutch ovens and dig yer firepits...............Buck 8) ::) ??? :-\ ;)
It's got to be something unique for CAS City, Buck, think of something good!
Where are Del and Gopher Grease??
AnnieLee
O.K. I'll hitch the Chuck but I am not cooking for all of you.....I also refuse to drive the Hoodlum wagon. Pea-Eye and Dos are saddle horses ;D I will share a recipe or 2 ;D
Figgered since he thought of it, Forty Rod would want it to be called the Mess Hall. Could even have a KP Korner ;D.
How 'bout "The Chuckwagon", "Grub Box", or "Castiron Cowboy Cafe"? Then, there's always "The Original Meals on Wheels".
Original Meals On Wheels would get my vote, but we might run into copyright laws or some such.
Mess hall don't cut it, and I'll starve before KP Corner gets my vote. (Shudder, gulp.)
This is a great idea.
But, until this gets going, check this place out. http://www.brimstonepistoleros.com/recipes/index.html
Forty,
Want some S.O.S.?
Slim(whats Pa was in the Army)
My Mom used to make a version of that stuff, wasn't bad. Can't speak for the Government version though.........Buck 8) ::) :o
Two decades ago I went into a restaurant in San Diego with my family and my wife's mom and ordered SOS. The lady brought me a huge plateful and smiled when she set it in front of me. I looked up and recognized her as a sailor who had worked in engineering supply when I was at Seal Beach. She wasn't the one who had taken our order, but was the head night chef in the place, and had seen me when she looked out to see who had ordered her "specialty".
"Eat up, Gunny. There's more where that came from".
It was delicious and I wasn't charged for it, just the drink and desert.
I still make it at home every once in a while. I actually like it if it's done right.
My Pa said it wasn't done right in the Army. ::)
Slim
;D S. O. S. - Rib stickin' chow. Keeps the troops goin'; and I don't mean "to the head", either. ::)
QuoteDelRod's Chuckwagon?............Get out yer Dutch ovens and dig yer firepits...............Buck
Where are ya' gonna put the fire pit?? In Forty's lawn??? :o :o :P ;D
Good SOS is just that: good. Even a flyboy knows that. But bad SOS might be best served as mortar for bricks. ;)
Meanwhile... no new suggestions for names?
I'm leaning back to "Good Eats" and won't run with "Chuckwagon".
AnnieLee
The City Beanery
CAS Cafe.
How about CAS Cafe and Beanery?
8)
AnnieLee
SOLD!!!
To the lady swathed top to bottom in yards of flannel, in spite of 106 degree temps.
Fancy Folks call it Creamed Chipped Beef on Toast Points. ;D
I was quiltin' last night and at Daycare today. ;D
If she answers, it'll be tooo muffled in flannel to be heard......Buck 8) ::) ;)
Tell you what, Del, you go down to the nearest Marine base, find a mess hall, and ask for creamed chipped beef on toast points. Ask real loud. You'll wish you'd never been born when the lads and lassies get donw re-educating you.
:D I'd pay to see that. :D
Not me, I make mine out of good Country Sausage, canned cow and put it over sourdough biscuits. The gravy should be think enough to stack. ::) ::)
My mama makes a good S.O.S.! Mmmmmmmm! Yours sounds good too, Del.
I put my vote in for "The Feed Sack" ;D ;D
Good Eats is one of my favorite shows on the Food Network, so I don't think it belongs here. ::)
Okie, I think we've narrowed it down to two:
CAS Cafe and Beanery
or
The Feed Sack.
Which would you prefer?
AnnieLee, not muffled, yet.
CAS Cafe and Beanery is just toooo foo foo sounding. ::)
Feed Sack brings it down a few notches ;D ;D ;D ;D
More options:
CAS Cafe and Feed Sack
Did we give Cosie's (Coosie's) Corner a try?
AnnieLee
Best steer clear of The Upchuck Wagon :D.
Why don't we just be cutsie about it...
Kosie Korner ?
<Smacks Trinity with her hat>
Okie, I've talked to Del.
Cosie's Corner and Feed Sack.
He says Gopher Grease will like it and if he doesn't, Del will shoot him.
Are there any strong objections to it?
AnnieLee
I strongly object to Gophergrease's getting shot!
Which sounds better, Feed Sack or Feed Bag??
<Tweaking>
AnnieLee
If I may put in my two cents, it should be called
GOPHER GREASE'S ULTIMATE RECIPE COLLECTION AND A PLACE FOR YOU TO PAY TRIBUTE TO HIM.
Otherwise I will ride under what ever brand is put to it.
:D :D :D
I love you, Gopher Grease. :-*
If there are no further objections, it will be called
"Cosie's Corner and Feed Bag."
;D
AnnieLee
wait how about litl' rooster's food emporium......ahhhh never mind I like the choice....What was it again?
Wishbone's Wagon?

Annie Lee said: "It's Feed Bag because Feed Sack sounds like something Trinity would WEAR."
Hey, I've WORN feed sack clothes. My grandma used to have a bunch of layin' hens and sold eggs to the local grocery store in town. I can (sometimes - on a good day ;D) remember when I was a little guy and came to spend time with my grandparents in the summer. The chicken feed she bought came in cloth sacks (seems like they were 40-50 lbs) that had all different kinds of floral designs, etc. on them, and when empty, she would make table cloths, napkins, or accasionally make me shirts. Those were "feed sacks". My grandpa raised sheep, goats and some cattle, and was also a subsistence farmer, doing all of his plowing, etc., with a team of horses. He had, and I occasionally saw him use, what he called a feed "bag" or nose "bag". If you want to see what one looks like, see http://www.feedritebag.com/ (http://www.feedritebag.com/).
Capt. Hamp, I've worn feed sack shirts too, and have dried many dishes using a feed sack towel. Feed bags are something you stick over the nose of a horse. It's that mental imagery: sack vs. bag that lead me to choose "bag."
:D
AnnieLee
Feed sacks, flour sacks, patterns from Woolworth's, and Mom's old Singer kept my sister and me from running around nekkid when we were kids. That, and iron-on patches on our jeans and corduroy (I'll be nekkid to this very day before I'll wear corduroy ever again) in the winter.
I hated the iron on patches because they only lasted a few days before the edges started peeling up!!!
I was diggin' through my wife's sewing stuff a while back stealing things to put in "my" sewing box and I found some "iron on patches." I didn't steal them though. ;D ;D
Do we need a sewing thread now? Iron patches. My mother and grandmother would save and salvage patches from the jeans that should have gone to the burn barrel. The jeans were from Sears. then couldn't afford Levi's (still can't) Besides Wrangler sponsor's Rodeo.
Levi quit getting my business when they began vocally supporting more stringent gun controls. Liked their jeans, but not their politics.
Wrangler supports rodeo...and?
So do I. Used to ride saddle bronc until I figured I should be getting an 'aircrew medal' for all the time I spent off the horse and above the dirt.
They're in NASCAR as well. Believe there's one pair of LEVI's in my drawer, didn't buy'em, they were given to me........Buck 8) ::) :-\ >:(
Levi's closed the doors on their last American factory last year in San Antonio and moved down south. While that shouldn't surprise us, with something that's so "American" as Levi's, it's sort of depressing. :(
Trinty, that is the way of production these days. You don't have to like it but, we are not a manufactoring country anymore. Wrangler is also in Mexico these days. Sears no longer sells their Rustler brands it's cheaper for them to buy someone elses foreign made product. Along with the Auto industry, Most of our large producer of consumer goods have opted for cheap foreign labor.. Use to be our family would not buy anything not made in the USA. Even if it says it in the label, somewhere down the production line, the product has a foreign part.
Well, litl rooster, I am aware of that fact, but I like to lament. ;D ;D
Don't get me started on that one......Buck 8) ::) :( >:(
Buck and Trinty....I believe I was ranting :-[
We all got stuff to rant about, lr. My hide gets real chapped about my former work place..........Buck 8) ::) :-\
Well... maybe it will make us feel better (probably worse!) that the folks south of the border are now losing out to Asia!
My father was in textiles (even worked at Levi's in SA back in the late 70's) and lived below the border a few times in different countries. He saw the writing on the wall and having no interest in travelling to Asia, he left the industry and now raises minuature horses. Big difference, huh?
Heck Asia has been kicking Mexico's butt in the garment industry for years....Minuture horses huh? I always say shoot low their riding shetlands
Buck, did you say once you worked for Hoover or one of the appliance manufactors?
It was a nice rant, and it took a LOT of effort for me to not post a TIRADE after it.
But I sure do like how Cosie's Corner & Feed Bag has launched.
(stinks that most Dutch Ovens are now made in China...)
