Ok .....The Spirit of Christmas lives!

I have to share what I just saw a little while ago!

I was at Walmart (it's the only place open in town tonight) picking up some odds & ends that Renegade Angel needed for tomorrows goodies. I was a little irritated because Angel is not supposed to be cooking/on her feet due to a blown out knee. But she was insistant that she was going to make her special Christmas goodies no matter what.

So there I am standing in the check out line, about a mile long, and in front of me is a little girl, about 4 years old, and her mother, who doesn't look old enough to be a mother. They finaly get to the check out and their purchases are rung up. The young mother tenders a "cash card" to pay for them, but it is five dollars short, on a 55 dollar total. She begins to try to decide what she can remove from her purchases, looking woebegone because her childs candy is among the items she is having to forgo. I'm reaching for my wallet thinking, "I can cover 5 bucks to make a child happy"...right?" Before I can get my wallet out, or even speak of my intention, an older woman steps around me, holds out a credit card to the clerk and tells him to put the young ladies items on her card.....THE WHOLE AMOUNT!!!

The young mother looked embarassed, greatful, and close to tears, stammering her thanks to the lady. The little girl looked a bit confused, not understanding what was happening, but when her mother told her to thank the lady she shyly did so. I then checked out my items and was about to leave...I stopped and turned to the lady, who had returned to her place behind me in line, and said, "Bless you for what you just did!" She smiled and said, "It's Christmas after all!"

Ok, I'm a sentimental fool, and that one got to me! It's Christmas Eve, and the kindness shown by a lady to this young mother and her child typifies the spirit of giving that Christmas has always meant to me. So if I seem kinda dorky about this incident, forgive me....It's Christmas Eve

Great story Cuts.  I'd like to think we'd all do the same thing in that situation.  Ain't that the cowboy way we're trying to promote?

Merry Christmas from the Republic of Texas!

Ah My Dear Cuts -

This incident, and others like it, being quietly reported from literally all over, give us evidence that there is hope in humankind.

you sir are not Dorky, but moved ( as am I  ) by the spirit that lives in folk even, (perhaps especially) in these hard times.

"peace on earth, good will amongst all men"
