Title: Ruger Old Army-Need Parts
Post by: Scout53 on December 22, 2010, 08:58:16 AM
I need to replace the nipples on a ROA.
I have been told to only use Ruger nipples. They do not carry them any more.
I have found catalogs that list after market nipples but I know that some are not long enough. I had purchased some and was told not to use them. I do not have the originals and thus can not measure them to find out their true length.
The short nipples lead to corrosion in the threads and problems with removal at cleaning time.
Your experience and advice is appreciated.

You should be able to get Treso nipples from The Possibles Shop that will work fine in your Old Armies.

The stock Ruger nipples are stainless steel and are good nipples.  Only real downside is the flash hole is kind of large.  Tresos are the best nipples there are.  Whenever you install a nipple put some anti-seize on the threads and it will come out fine at cleaning time.

Thank you!
The Possibles Shop has the Tresco nipples and it should not be a problem ordering them. Also, the anti-seize is a great idea that should keep me out of the 'smiths workshop.

I guess I should consider myself very lucky ....

The person who had my SS 4/12: Ruger Old Armys had already installed Treso nipples, and I bought a two replacement sets of Treso nipples from the Possible Shop a long time ago ...
