Title: Derringer holsters
Post by: amin ledbetter on March 22, 2010, 07:18:35 PM
Any one ever made a holster for a Derringer?  If you have could you share some pics of it please? I just bought a cute little Derringer and thought about makin a holster fer it. Had an idea of maybe makin the holster attached to a pair of all leather suspenders. I think I seen that some where before, but can't remember where. Any help would be appreciated on this pards, and I thank you all in advance for your time.

Amin,

I always thought if I got a derringer, it might be holstered like this ... in this holster, it is buttoned on the suspender buttons, tucked inside the waist of the pants, and the suspenders buttoned on top of the holster attachments ...

That is brilliant WWE! I really like that! That one will go in the referance box. I may very well try that. Thanks.

Amin,

I can see only three problems with the holsters ...

1.) If it was a hammered derringer, the hammer would be easy to get caught in the "V" of the suspenders ...

2.) And if it was a spur trigger, one could end up 'less of  a man' if one was a bit enthusiastic pulling it ....

3.) Probably not as much as a problem in the northern latitudes, but I would imagine that being that close to a sweaty body could cause the pistol to get a bit 'verklempt' ....

Yeah I can see your points there Wadd. Still a pretty neat holster though. I could maybe modify the design a bit and attach it on the outside of the suspenders. That would eliminate two of the issues. Only way to eliminate changin your gender with it would be to be cautious when drawin it!  ;D I still like the design though.

Wesley Hardin when he was captured in Florida discovered the same thing.  He had a shortened 1860 Army down the front.  When they went to arrest him, the hammer got hung up in his suspenders and he didn't get it drawn.

Someplace around here I have one for a Colt 3rd Model single shot derringer.  It's made to be strapped to an upper arm or an ankle with a narrow belt.  No retention strap or any other way to keep it in except for gravity.

Howdy Bob

I like your Derringer holster, it covers the trigger which is very important, IMHO, and you put a hammer thong on it too, also important, IMHO, it looks well made, thanks for sharing.

I like that too Bob! Very well made. I am going to definitely put a hammer thong on mine. Is that a Cobra Derringer? That is similar to the one I have which is a Davis Industry 22. What caliber is yours?

Here's one I did for a pard. It mounts to the extra buckle holes on suspenders, or you can punch new holes.

Howdy,

I did this one a few years ago with the clip off another IWB I had laying around. Rawhide and rough out. It works very well for those days when only a t-shirt will do.

Safe trails,
CKid

As usual....beautiful work everybody!  ;D

Found it.  It's marked on the back (I didn't recall any markings) HDR /EIG/ Japan.  It came with the deringer, but it obviously isn't period.  Someone PMed me about it but I can't find the message. Contact me again and we can talk.
