Title: Walker conversion with BP
Post by: Deadguy on May 23, 2008, 01:21:47 PM
Will a Walker with a Krist or R&D conversion be strong enough to handle full house BP loads, i.e. 250 grain bullet with 40 grains BP?  Or would a Remmie frame be a better choice?  The reason I am asking is because my brother-in-law wants to get into shooting BP cartridges in vintage (NOT modern) guns, and he wants to be able to load the cartridges to what they were originally designed to do.

I have a question!  Where is he going to get cartridge cases that will hold 40 grains?  ??? ???  I reload with used brass, mixed brands and 30 grains is pretty much all that I can get in any of the cases.  I don't use a drop tube or compress more than 1/8th inch.  Am I missing something here?  Done a lot of loading, but kind of new at the Holy Black! :o ;D ;D

Dr. Bob:
I get 37-38 grs of FF Holy Black, by weight  and a .30 vegtable wad behind a 200 or 250 gr. homecast rnfp bullet with little compression in a fired Winchester case. This is of course for my Vaqueros. I do not have Walker----yet!

My Winchester and Starline .45 colt cases both hold 42 grains of Goex FFF with a 255 grain bullet just fine.  Yes, the powder is compressed, but it's supposed to be!
