Title: 12 gauge brass blanks
Post by: California Lawdawg on March 31, 2004, 12:19:31 AM
Alright all you soot lords. I'm interested li loading up some black powder blanks for reenacting. Suggestions would be appreciated as to how much BP and what to hold it in until shot. :)

Just dump in a bunch and put in an overshot card and seal with some elmer's.  I've used as much as 8cc's (about 130gr).

I know one guy that filled the shell!  Half way should be plenty.

Does he have a shoulder left?

70-80gr by volume would be good.

Doc is spot on.

I load powder with largest Lee scoop from the improved powder measure kit; 1 and 1/2 cushion wads made of fibre;  1 oz. of shot; an over shot card and then some silicon sealant to seal it up. I like the brass because you can choose your column size without worrying about the crimp.

Slim, there's no recoil without the shot!  I've shot those 8 dram blanks.  No problem!

Sorry, Doc. I thought you were putting in a fiber wad. I have not made blanks without the fiber wad. I will try some with just an overshot card. It should make a big difference in felt recoil.

I was wondering if the florist's foam I use in my 45 blanks wouldn't work fine.  I have had great success with these 45 blanks.  I have shot at a paper grocery bag from as little as 6 feet and there wasn't even a hole in the bag.

Off hand does anyone know how much BP the largest Lee dipper throws?

You are welcome, Will. Are you going to make it to the shoot in Ripon on the 17th?
