Howdy folks, appreciate the help ya'all have given me so far. Got another question now. Another pard gave me a full container of 777 in FFFg. I have been loading 777 in FFg (and look forward to making the range smoke next weekend) The question.... is FFFg ok in 45LC ? Looks to be alot smaller than the 2f powder. (have only seen the 2f up til now) I know 777 is hotter than reg black. Will 3f end up with too much powder and cause problems?
On another note. is 3f ok for 12ga shot shell loads?

Two Rivers i have used 2f and 3f Scheutzen (real bp) and APP with no issues.
That being said with 777 hotter than BP - I miht load that 3f in shotshells vice the 45lc - that is unless you want one heck of a hard 45lc load ;D.

Be careful with 3f-777. Its not meant for cartridge loading. I didn't read the container carefully and used it in my Armisport
Spencer 56-50. Flattened primers, increased recoil and velocity jumped up to well over 1300fps vs. 2f-777 at 1100fps.

Just wonderig why you decided to go with 777 instead of real BP. Around eastern Va the subs tend to be more expensive than the real thing. I did the sub thing to start also but converted over to Goex and I reallly think it is easier to clean the guns.
I use 777 ffg in my rilfe and pistol loads :-[ because I can use regular lubed boolits and load on my progressive press jus like I do the heathen stuff. As much as me amd Trina shoot I would behard pressed to keep ammo loaded using the real Holy Black. I do miss the fire shooting out the end of the muzzle! :)

Read the 777 bottle. The information you want is printed on it. I've used it in only one cartridge gun because that case holds only .3cc of compressed powder. The pressure is still high, even with that puny charge. A compressed load of FFFg 777 in a big case like the 45 Colt under a 250 grain bullet could possibly exceed SAAMI pressure limits.
No, don't use it in shotgun either. Probably worse there. For that scattergun, get some Skirmish or LIDU. At least one of your guns will be makin' proper flames :).

Jus got back from Wal-Mart, well actually a coulpe of them. Triple Seven, FFG, $11.00 per pound on clearance. Pyrodex RS $7.00 per pound if they have it. The 3 stores I went to were aready sold out of the Pyrodex. but I got enough 777 to last me awhile.
Appreciate the info folks. When it was given to me, I saw it had a load for 45cal on the label and didnt think much past that.
As far as why use 777 ? Right now, the only bullets I have are for smokeless powder. When I bought the original jug of 777, it was a dollar or two more than pyrodex. I since found a store that sells Goex, but I havent found a store that sells any "big lube" bullets. My finances pretty much only allow me to by a box of 500 bullets at a time.
Will be checking with the folks at the next match to see where they get their bullets and see if anyone is selling other than smokeless lead

Or get into casting your own and never run out of bullets. I love the 6 cavity Lee moulds, big lube variety that Dick Dastardly sells, http://www.biglube.com/
It's a bit more trouble to cast your own, but I normaly cast enough for 6 months or more in one afternoon and pan lube and use Lee sizers to size. One of these days I'll get a Star sizer, but it ain't cheap. I couldn't shoot nearly as much as I do if I didn't cast my own. Search out tire shops and see if they'll give you old wheel wieghts, most times you can get them for free. A Lee bottom pour furnace, a thermometer, a mould, some home made lube and your in buisness. I doesn't cost me much more than powder and primmer, a little electricity and some tallow and wax for lube. Order your black powder from Graf's, they will let you order 1-50 lbs, for the same 20$ hazmat fee and it still generaly figures out to about half the cost of the subs. Graf's house powder is made by schootzen(can't never spell it but maybe ya'll can figure out what I mean) and is a bit cheaper and I've found it to be better than goex.
If you want to shoot the smokless bullets with black powder you can melt the lube out in a cake pan(not one you'll ever bake a cake in again) and pan lube with some homemade black powder lube. It ain't hard, just a little time consuming. I'ts been my experiance that when I don't have much money I generaly have plenty of free time, when I do have plenty of money(relativly speeking!) I don't have time for anything.
