Title: Cylinder removal
Post by: Dutchy Rodell on May 03, 2007, 01:32:51 PM
I just bought a Uberti Remington Conversion, 38 sp. 5 1/2 " barrel.   The instuctions were not clear on cylinder removal.  First of all do you need to remove the cylinder for cleaning?  I tried to remove the cylinder by lowering the loading level, pulling out both the ejector rod and the cylinder pin.  The cylinder did not seem to want to roll free - should it?  Since it is new do I need to apply more pressure?  I am a little reluctant to be too forceful.  Your adivse would be gretly appreciated.  Dutchy

Half cock the gun
open loading gate
Drop ram rod slightly to free cylinder pin and pull forward.
Rotate the cylinder clockwise (from the rear) and remove

Thanks.  I found out that I wasn't pulling the ejector rod out of the way.  The Cyliinder comes out easy now.  Dutchy

Dutchy,

A word of advice, when re-installing the cylinder, make sure the hammer is also at half cock.  The first time I tried to re-install the cylinder, I had problems and found the key was having the hammer in the proper position.  Further in this forum, you will find a discussion started by me (Catdad) regarding Special Care Needed for 1858 Remingtons.
