What size caps do you folks use on a stock/box Uberti '60 Army?
I bought one , its back at the shop now with another prob,,but,,,it wouldnt ignite #10CSI's. #11's fall off...sooooo.
Did I have an abboration? There seemed to not be a good middle ground.
I have sent it back for exchange,,,on the other problem,,,since I never fired it..(wouldnt ignite the caps) the folks were super nice and didnt want to leave me without a gun. Thats pleasant in todays world to find good folks.
So, when I get a new '60 Army back,,,,,Id like to give'er a test run with stock caps.....before I purchase the replacments ones,,
Go 11's and risk chain fire ? Any neat trick to using #10s ? One companys caps differ from anothers?
Marshal Deadwood
Marshall,
I do not have a Uberti 1860 but have two Remingtons and two Walkers from Uberti. They like the REMINGTON#10 cap. The closest cap in size to that one is the RWS#1075.
Here are the caps in order of size from the smallest/tightest to the largest:
RWS#1055 (often called the RWS#10)
CCI#10
RWS#1075 (often called the RWS#11)
Rem#10
CCI#11
Rem#11
A lot of my guns have the nipples replaced with Uncle Mike's/Butler Cr/Thunder Ridge SS replacement nipples (all 3 the same size nipple). They all like the Remington#10 cap. The rest of my guns will take the Rem#10 with the stock nipples including the Uberti Remmies. I have Pietta, Euroarms, & ASM guns. The Pietta and ASMs have factory nipples that take Rem#10s. About 5 or 6 of my guns have the aforementioned replacement nipples. Everything I own takes the Rem#10 or I replace the nipples to make it so. At one time I bought a bunch of miscellaneous BP stuff from someone and it had CCI & RWS caps in the bag. I found that among my 15 or so C&Bs I could get about half of them to take the CCI#11s and the other half to take the RWS#11s. For your Colt I'd try the REM#10 and if not attainable, try the RWS#1075s since the CCI#11s are too loose. On the too loose caps you can pinch them a little out of round and make them stay on the nipples.
The beauty of the Rem#10s is they are more "forgiving" when seated. They are a thinner cup that is pre-split so as you push them home they expand to fit the nipple whereas the CCIs are so thick and rigid they are not as expandable.
I've been pinching 11's for years and never had a problem. I'd give that a try before spending any more money.
