Title: Norinco 1887 12 ga
Post by: MONGO-AZ on March 19, 2007, 12:52:43 PM
Hello y'all -

Been thinking about picking one up jus' for fun - not looking for the Coyote Cap model - just the standard one. What's everyone's opinion of them? Should I get one now or wait a year or two? Any reported problems with them so far?

They are an improvement over the originals where you can easily drop in two shells without having to get them modified by a gunsmith to accomplish that feat. However, they are a rough actioned gun. I see people cranking pretty hard on them so my impression is they are not a real smooth action without some work. There's not much difference in speed of loading between a SXS that I can see and the followup shot is faster with the SXS. There is the "cool factor" which is hard to put a price on.

I have both the CC WCSE18 and the factory model. Both are smooth and easy to cycle...I polished up my factory model myself using CC's tips on his website and I then sent him the gun to install his Top Gun modification which makes the "load two" feature work better (The carrier is not as sensitive to over pressure when loading).

The "hard cranking" you refer to may be that, in order to get proper spent case extraction it is necessary to hit the forward racking pretty firmly, otherwise the spent case seems to just hang up. It definately takes some getting use to but it sure is fun to shoot.
