Title: VA has a load of military sites
Post by: Mustang Gregg on January 25, 2007, 04:48:19 PM
I have been TDY at Newport News this week.  I have had the chance to visit the Casements at Ft Monroe, VA Military Museum, Ft Eustis Transportation Museum and the Yorktown Battlefield.  The Mariners Museum will soon have a USS Monitor display up & going.

There is a load of preserved military history here, folks.

Last time I was here (active duty in 1985).  But I never got a chance to see much back then.

Come to the Richmond-Petersburg area, or go to Fredricksburg or into the area south of DC, lots more to see.

When was in VA last year, I realized I could throw a stone in just about any direction and hit a battlefield.

Half the time, you're on the battlefield. You don't have to throw the stone, just drop it.

One time a guy whose house was on part of the Bull Run 'field was on eBay selling coffee cans full of dirt from his back yard. I am not making that up.

Hey MG
Do you have nation wide? I need to talk to you but it can wait if I'd run up roaming fees.

I'll echo what Slim said, since due to his favor I was with him on the VA. trip that included Thunder in the Brush II  - or at least Day 1's activities, for me.  (I got very ill and couldn't participate Day 2.)

Yeah, not only was the Shenandoah Valley beautiful, you could feel the history dripping from the branches of trees.  I wish we'd been able to do more sightseeing, but we were on a mission.  The hospitality we received was nothing short of spectacular.  I would really enjoy all the sites, but especially the Yorktown battlefield and the Mariner's Museum.

Sorry MG
I went to the kids Basketball game last night and didn't see your message until it was too late to call a guy that has to get up at 0400.

Terry Lane says yopu got it lined up to have CAS at the Cornhusker State Games?

Col Pitspitr & all:

Bit off topic---SORRY!

Yep, we're gonna have a CAS event at the NE State Games.
Most details are still bein' worked out.
SO FAR:
It'll be a 2-day shoot (probably 10 stages).
Maybe also a stage set up fer an example for new folks to try their hands at shootin' CAS.
It will NOT be limited to NE residents.
It will be at ENGC (Louisville, NE).
