Title: 56-50 Brass for an Original Spencer
Post by: Two Flints on September 05, 2006, 05:11:21 AM
Hello SSS,

Is anybody currently making 56-50 brass for original Spencers converted to centerfire? I'd appreciate any leads, if you know of a manufacturer who is making them.

Howdy Pard,

Buffalo arms reworks 50-70 brass into both 56-50 and 56-56 for originals, and has the .520 molds also.  The rim is bigger than 56-50 Starline brass, and works well with the blade extractors.

T.L.,

Need another supplier of 56-50 brass for an original Spencer, from what I've been told Buffalo Arms is no longer supplying the 56-50 brass.  Any other leads?

Howdy,

Does your original have blade extractor, or a center Lane extractor.  Some 1865s even have both.  If you have a Lane, the Starline brass works.  Talked to a CW type with an 1865 with a lane.  The Starline brass worked fine in his.  The belling/flare die opened them up to 520 from 515 no problem.  The Lane will be a spring loaded hook in the center of the lower breech block.

I buy mine from Larry Romano. He makes them to your spec's from 50-70 Bell brass and you'll have to anneal them.
