The US provided GB with some P-38 Lightings (before the US involvement in the War).
These came with the US built Allison engines, but, without the "supper chargers".
The Brits called them "Castrated" Lightings.
The Merlin engines really help performance in the P-38's.
But once the Brits starts supplying the Merlin and its specs to us to build, they got the "Supper Chargers" specs.
A win win situation for everyone, except those who had to fight aircraft with those engines in them.

Blair,

MY Dad was a flying Maintenance Officer on c-124s. Although I have never heard a radial on an attack run, there is something very special about 4360 cu.in. engines starting  up ... 2cyinders, 4 cylinders, et cetera.

My moniker is my great grandfather's name. He served with the 2nd Florida Mounted Regiment in the Civil War. Afterward, he came home, packed his wife into a wagon, and was one of the first NorteAmericanos on the Frio River southwest of San Antonio ..... Kinda where present day Dilley is ...

Blair,

Although not a Navy Aircraft MATS serviced the outsize needs of all Forces ... so I could not help but add this Wiki re the 4360 Wasp Engine

I had forgotten about The Drum, I did get to tour it as well as the Alabama. Baseball great Bob Feller was a gunner on the Bama. They have a special display of his bunk. The sun is about up, but the girls are still napping in the back.

TTFN,

Multi engine transport aircraft use the most powerful radial engines on the market for the time period.
However, they don't hold a candle to the single engine attack/ fighter and bomber type aircraft.
This is what I am talking about.

Dry dock her, like they've done with several other ships ::)

The Olympia is a sister ship to the Maine. Her age is her worst enemy right now. It is a shame that this important piece of Naval history might not be preserved.

The National Institute of Health (NIH) has awarded $1.5 million to study biological and social factors for why "three-quarters" of lesbians are obese and why homosexual males are not.

Who would have thought this subject would evolve in this direction?

It is, however, a sad measure at how our Government Officials allocate Tax payers monies for BS projects.
It is very true... it matters not only who you know but who you blow!!!!!!!!!!!!!
