You and I apparently like to do things the hard way.  Lone Gunman has an Evans too, and could give you some advice. Find him on the NCOWS page and PM him.
Go to this website   www.leverguns.com/articles/blancard/evens.htm

It's a very informative article.  It says brass can be made from 30-40 brass.  I think LG said he uses 300 Savage, others say they use 44 magnum, but regardless, you have to have the rims turned down. Quite expensive if you have to pay to have it done, especially if you want a 100 rounds or so.

There was a guy on eBay selling factory Evans bullet molds. The first one went for $61, and I forgot to bid on it. The next one went for about $160, and a third one for $200!   Guess  word got around.  You could get a bullet from someone with an original mold, and have one made for less than that.

They have variable bore diameters, so slugging your barrel is a must.  The guy in the article recommends doing a chamber cast also.
Mine has an odd barrel length, so it might be a rifle that's been cut down.

Also, post on www.antiqueguns.com   in the pre-1898 forum, and ask about cases and bullets.  If there's a shooter out there, that's where he'd be.

I would like to see a pic of that Evans rifle! Most likely to find brass, dies and bullets at www.buffaloarms.com

Thanks for the link, Reelfoot, I didn't know anyone was making new brass, but at a $1.15 a piece, still pretty expensive. I believe the original bullet was in the 220 grain range.  So slug your barrel and start looking for something in that diameter.
