I have used the alcohol leather dye on surplus rifle stocks and on cheap birch wood that some manufacterers are using today that is impossible to stain with wood stain.  I have not used it on my Italian clone SAA grips, but seeing these pictures makes me think I should try it and follow up with boiled linseed oil.
