Replica Arms 1861 Navy (?)
« on: March 20, 2012, 07:42:40 PM »
I just purchased a Replica Arms c&b revolver that was advertised as an 1860 Army in ".36 cal."  I looked closer at the pics and think it is an 1861 Navy.  It has the Uberti logo on left frame, blue steel backstrap and TG and square-back triggerguard.  Appears unfired.  I could not find a photo of this on the Replica Percussion Revolver Collector's Association site.  Any info. appreciated.

Hey Dusty

If .36, it is an 1861 not an 1860.  Many folks out there don't know any better and think the round barrel makes it an 1860.  A blued squareback triggerguard is a rare one.  I've only seen one, and it had a full fluted cylinder.  Uberti made these in the mid 70s.  What's the date code on this one? I'm sure Dr. Davis has one like it; just doesnt have a picture posted on the RPRCA website.  I'd love to see his whole collection.  I understand it somewhere around 900 replicas.

Thanks Fingers.  This one is marked on barrel REPLICA ARMS, INC.  MARIETTA – OHIO -  MADE IN ITALY.  I think the date code is PN or maybe PM.  Hard to tell from photos and pistol is in the mail.  The revolver looks unfired and unturned (relatively).  Only visible defects is a slightly buggered hammer screw head (top edge of slot scraped) and the right grip has a couple of storage/handling bumps.  The RPRCA site says it is no longer taking new members.   :(

Dusty and Fingers, I seem to remember that model from an old Dixie catalog I still have from the early seventies. I'll try to dig it out tonight and see if I can find it. I remember thinking that that was a very strange configuration, squareback triggerguard on a '61? And iron straps? Cool looking piece tho'.

PN would be the blackpowder proof mark.

Well, I may have stumbled into something very rare indeed.  According to Jim Davis of RPRCA, he has "never even seen the steel square back TG with a straight cylinder.  I have seen the fluted ones both for sale and in catalogs."  And  that "The square back trigger guard in steel on the 1861 Navy is very rare.  RPRCA only has one of these in its collection and it has a Full Fluted Cylinder. I have the 1861 Navy with straight cylinder and steel SqBk TG listed in my list of variations but I cannot remember where the info about this is.  Regardless, it is an extremely rare variation of the 1861 Navy.  Replica Arms seems to be the only company that imported this particular variation.  Congratulations on this find."

Sometimes I catch a break. ;D

I'll have to dig around when I get home. I think I have one of those, but not marked Replica Arms. Only remember Uberti markings???? Blued, 61 navy with CC frame and nickle square back trigger guard and backstrap.

Pics. of pistola.  Appears unfired.  CC is vivid.  Bluing is almost black.  Only real flaws are a storage/handling ding on one grip panel and a little blemish on barrel near muzzle.

Date stamp is XXVI.  That is 1970.  Great shape for a 42 y/o BP revolver. ;D

Mine, with the ordinary iron grip frame and trigger guard is a Uberti 1967.  Mine takes the same cones as Pietta's.  What size are the nips in yours?

Not sure.  I do not plan on shooting it.  May look for a collector of replica BP revolvers to take it off my hands.
