Swampy, Howdy!
You mention that you don't get around well and use a cane. I've been in SASS (Lifer) since around 1998 or so and have been almost exclusively NCOWS about 10 years now. I'm a Member for Life. (That means I haven't paid the Life Membership fee, but I will renew every year until I quit shooting. You know, as in dead.
My NCOWS pards put up with my infirmities and never complain. I walk with a cane and am nearly in a wheelchair - but I'm too proud to change.
Don't worry a BIT about it. I can't bend (much) to pick up brass, so I invested in a really neat Brass Wizard with extension handle from Unique-Tek. It is so well liked and handy that both of the clubs I belong to bought them too, after seeing how well it worked for me.

NCOWS is very "laid back" and not like IPSC at all. Some of the SASSies I have shot with take the competition part VERY seriously, but most were happy to slow things down some.
Have fun, WHATEVER you do!
